SBM Offshore, Brazilian Oil Giant Petrobras Signs 22-Year Charter Contract for the Supply of FPSO Mero 4
Petrobras announced yesterday the signing of another contract with SBM Offshore, this time for the chartering of the FPSO Alexandre de Gusmão, which will be the fourth production unit of the Mero field, the first production sharing area in the Pre-salt of the Santos Basin.

The charter contract is for 22 years and the first oil from the unit is expected in 2025. The FPSO will be able to process up to 180,000 barrels of oil and 12 million m3 of gas per day.
The unit will be connected to 15 wells, with eight oil producers, six water and gas injectors, and one convertible well from producer to gas injector. The Mero field is the third largest in the Pre-salt and is located in the Libra area.

This will be the third FPSO under construction by SBM. In addition to the FPSO Sepetiba (Mero-2022), the operator is also building the FPSO Almirante Tamandaré (Búzios – Santos Basin).
The contracts reinforce Petrobras’s operations in partnership in the E&P area focused on deep and ultra-deep waters. The company continues to operate efficiently and competitively, maximizing the potential of the assets and promoting more returns for the company and society.

The Mero field is the third largest in the pre-salt and is located in the Libra area, operated by Petrobras (40%) in partnership with Shell Brasil Petróleo Ltda. (20%), TotalEnergies EP Brasil Ltda. (20%), CNODC Brasil Petróleo e Gás Ltda. (10%), CNOOC Petroleum Brasil Ltda. (10%) and Pré-Sal Petróleo S.A. (PPSA), which acts as the manager of this contract.
The forecast is that production of Mero’s first definitive system (Mero 1) will start in 2022, through the FPSO Guanabara, followed by Mero 2 (FPSO Sepetiba) in 2023, and Mero 3 (FPSO Marechal Duque de Caxias) in 2024.
