BYD King Is The New Car From BYD That Promises To Hit The Brazilian Market Soon. Performance Announced By The Manufacturer Highlights 1200 Km Of Autonomy To Compete Directly With The Toyota Corolla, Sales Leader In The Country.
Since BYD confirmed that it would invest in the Brazilian Vehicle Market back in 2021, there have been rumors that the Chinese brand would bet on the medium sedan segment to compete with the Toyota Corolla. Initially, the Qin Plus was mentioned, however, the media is now discussing the successor to this model, the product that will actually come to compete with the clear leader in the segment in Brazil, likely starting in 2025. This is the new car from BYD, the BYD King.
Meet The BYD King, Hybrid Sedan That Promises To Be The Rival Of The Toyota Corolla
The new car from BYD is an evolution of the Qin Plus itself, also with a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain, with external charging. Despite the name change and revamped appearance, the silhouette of the body and the presence of components from its predecessor, such as the entire side stamping, columns, and windows, indicate that the BYD King is not that different from the Qin. The front design is different, featuring a giant grille, spindle-shaped, with horizontally slatted dividers, in addition to new headlights and bumper.
The rear is also different, though to a lesser extent: the taillights, still interconnected, have been redesigned and now feature darkened lenses, while the bumper and trunk lid received new creases and cutouts. The changes resulted in a small gain in dimensions. Compared to the Qin Plus, the new car from BYD, the rival of the Toyota Corolla, gained almost 2 cm in length, totaling 4.78 meters.

However, the width of 1.84m, height of 149m, and nearly 2.72m wheelbase are identical to the old model. Nevertheless, the measurements show that the BYD King will occupy the medium sedan segment, giving the Corolla a run for its money.
New Car From BYD Delivers 260 Horsepower
BYD has not disclosed what the King’s powertrain will be, however, an important piece of information revealed during the presentation slipped out: 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.3 seconds, indicating the use of a more powerful variant of the 1.5 DM-i plug-in hybrid engine from the SUV Song Plus. The internal combustion engine is the same, a 1.5 four-cylinder 16V Atkinson cycle engine, with 110 horsepower and 13.8 kgfm of torque.
However, the 179 horsepower and 32.5 kgfm electric motor from the Song Plus gives way to a different one with 197 horsepower and 33.1 kgfm, thereby exceeding the combined 260 horsepower. The BYD King’s battery pack, manufactured by BYD itself, can reach up to 18.3 kWh in capacity, surpassing 100 km of electric-only range, according to the Chinese WLTC cycle.
The combined range, according to the company, would exceed 1,200 km, with a consumption of up to 26.3 km/l in that same parameter.
BYD Already Registers Rival Of The Toyota Corolla In Brazil
The media has even discovered that the new car from BYD has already been registered under the name King at the end of last year with the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI). However, the model’s launch is not expected to happen anytime soon.
The brand’s priorities for this year are the electric subcompact Dolphin Mini and a medium plug-in hybrid pickup, still unnamed, which will compete in the segment of the Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger. This, in fact, has been spotted on the streets of Australia with images spreading quickly across social media, revealing the camouflaged-free model and significantly impacting the automotive industry.
