Leaked Photos of BYD’s New Pickup Shake the Automotive Industry; Forecast is That BYD’s Hybrid Pickup Will Arrive in 2024 with an Estimated Price of R$ 300 Thousand.
Recently, rumors emerged that BYD was working on developing a medium pickup with a double cabin. Now, images released by the website Drive in Australia captured a vehicle that supposedly is the new BYD hybrid pickup. These images quickly spread across social media, revealing the model without camouflage and causing a significant impact on the automotive industry.
New BYD Pickup May Hit Markets in Asia and Oceania
According to the publication, the BYD pickup is expected to launch in the automotive industry later this year. Patents filed as early as 2023 in Asia suggested that BYD’s hybrid pickup was close to appearing, which indeed has occurred.
Only a few emblems were hidden; however, much of the pickup can be seen. The site further highlighted that BYD plans to launch the pickup as a plug-in hybrid in the Asia and Oceania markets, but it won’t be alone. A fully electric version of the BYD pickup may be in the Chinese company’s plans, though with a longer launch timeline, expected only for 2025.

It is also possible to see the rectangular multimedia screen of approximately 15 inches, touchscreen, a trademark of BYD. Moreover, the instrument panel is also digital. It was found that the BYD pickup, which promises to shake the automotive industry, is hybrid due to the panel indicating fuel levels and the health of the battery, displaying a remaining range of 1,079 km.
BYD’s Hybrid Pickup Expected to Arrive for R$ 327 Thousand
According to the Australian site, BYD’s importers in the country already have a price expectation for the Chinese pickup, where reservations could start as early as this semester. Therefore, the BYD plug-in pickup from the Chinese brand will arrive there costing less than 100,000 Australian dollars, equivalent to approximately R$ 327 thousand, when converted directly.

Compared to the national market, where it is still unknown whether the model will be part of it in the future or not, the BYD pickup would cost around rival diesel models, such as the Toyota Hilux, for example. However, its biggest rival would be the also Chinese GWM Poer, also electrified, which will be produced in Brazil. Another option would be the JAC Hunter pickup, also hybrid.
GWM Poer is About to Arrive in Brazil
Expected to arrive in Brazil soon, the GWM Poer Pickup positions itself as a strong competitor to the Toyota Hilux in 2024. Well-equipped and ready to face one of the most popular models in the Brazilian market, the Poer represents yet another significant advance from Chinese manufacturers in Brazil.
Already sold in Argentina through direct import from China, the expectation is that the medium pickup will hit the Brazilian market in 2024, promising to shake the automotive industry with its features and performance.
There are plans for local production in Iracemápolis, São Paulo. This production may result in more affordable versions, expanding the model’s availability in the national market. Currently, price speculations range from R$ 200 thousand to R$ 300 thousand, which consolidates it as a competitive option within the current standards. The GWM Poer pickup uses, in addition to a combustion version, also a hybrid powertrain.
