The Government of Minas Gerais, with the support of Fiemg, developed the Minas Hydrogen program, which aims to incentivize the production of green hydrogen in the state
This Thursday (12) the Minas Hydrogen Program was launched, which aims to encourage and structure the production of green hydrogen in Minas Gerais. With this clean energy source, the expectation is that costs will be reduced and energy security and efficiency will be increased, considering that hydrogen can be stored and used during periods of high demand. The program is an initiative of the state government alongside the Federation of Industries of the State of Minas Gerais (Fiemg).

Green hydrogen can be obtained through biomass electrolysis, biofuels, or water, resources easily found in Minas Gerais. Therefore, the state government’s program aims to encourage the entire production chain, from equipment production to the creation of new technologies.
According to Flávio Roscoe, president of Fiemg, the production and use of green hydrogen in Minas Gerais could significantly boost the industry, as in addition to being a clean energy source, green hydrogen can be stored, providing a guarantee of supply and can also be transported to places where traditional energy cannot meet demand.

Green Hydrogen Will Expand Energy Supply in Minas Gerais
Roscoe states that the cost and availability of energy for industry are two factors that define the competitiveness of countries and states. The federal government has been investing in alternatives to reduce the costs of Brazilian energy, which has previously been a decisive factor in industrial competitiveness and is currently a barrier to investment in some cases.
For the president of Fiemg, the production of this clean energy source in the state will be a solution to increase energy supply and reduce costs. According to Roscoe, in addition to the state government, the support of the Ministry of Mines and Energy will also be necessary for the program, which requires a regulatory framework, storage systems, and the structuring of the production and transportation chain, to progress.
MME Minister Highlights the Importance of Renewable Sources for the Brazilian Market
According to Bento Albuquerque, Minister of Mines and Energy, the use of green hydrogen as a clean energy source is an essential initiative that could contribute to the diversification of the energy matrix and meet needs during peak periods more effectively than other energy sources, such as wind and solar, which do not fully meet demand.
According to Paulo Brant, the Vice Governor, the program created by the government is well-regarded by the state, and the energy issue is essential not only from the perspective of high costs impacting consumers but also from a sustainability standpoint.
Reducing carbon emissions is a global goal, and the technological route of hydrogen is one of the most promising. For the development of the plan, Cemig, BDMG, Indi, and many other agencies will be involved, which, like the government and Fiemg, are willing to foster the sector.
