According to the Manager of Business Development and Green Hydrogen at ENGIE Brazil, Koen Langie, the company believes that by joining forces with the Brazilian Hydrogen Association, it is possible to leverage applied research for the advancement of green hydrogen utilization in industries at commercial scale.
Another focus of the partnership with the entity is the training of skilled professionals. The executive emphasizes that it is necessary to create human capital in the country to develop green hydrogen projects.
Executives from Both Sides Speak Out
For Langie, the Brazilian hydrogen market needs appropriate regulation to evolve. Thus, working alongside the Brazilian Hydrogen Association and its members will bring new opportunities to drive regulatory and normative milestones in the country, establishing a competitive and attractive market for new investors.
According to the executive, ENGIE sees opportunities in creating solutions for sectors such as steel, chemicals, mining, petrochemicals, and others. According to the President of the Brazilian Hydrogen Association, Paulo Emílio Valadão de Miranda, the entity’s mission is to create a network composed of companies, universities, government institutions, and agencies to discuss, incentivize, and plan initiatives in the green hydrogen sector with a focus on creating regulations, standards, and codes.
Monica Saraiva Panik, director of institutional relations at the entity since 2020, states that she has been observing the recent advance of the sector and the increase in interest in this energy solution. The ABH2, has been connecting with companies and the private sector. This is due to the hydrogen segment becoming one of the largest over the last year, and interest has been growing.
ENGIE Plans to Achieve 4GW of Hydrogen Capacity by 2030
ENGIE’s global goal is to develop a strong position in green hydrogen, a technology that is gaining momentum globally. The group’s mission is to benefit from the advantages and be at the forefront of the sector.
From the company’s perspective, green hydrogen is a strategic vector for carbon neutrality, as it allows for better utilization of renewable energies and helps reduce emissions for sectors to meet their targets.
By 2030, ENGIE estimates to develop a production capacity of 4 GW of green hydrogen, install about 700 km of networks aimed at the source, and operate more than 100 refueling stations. The group already has around 70 hydrogen projects in operation across 10 countries.
