Port of Itaqui, in Maranhão, is experiencing a moment of full expansion of infrastructure, technology and logistics (Disclosure)

The announcement of the package of works and investments in the Port of Itaqui was made by the Government of Maranhão and the works should ensure that by 2025 there is an increase in cargo handling within the port terminal      

Flávio Dino, Governor of the State of Maranhão, announced that a package of more than R$ 500 million invested in works will be carried out at the Porto do Itaqui port terminal, located in the Bacanga region, in the capital São Luís. The announcement was made by the governor during a visit to Porto do Itaqui, last Wednesday (23). On one occasion, Flávio Dino signed service orders and then launched the public notices for the shares. The works announced by the governor of Maranhão are part of the strategic plan of the Empresa Maranhense de Administração Portuária – Emap, which has the main objective of increasing the cargo handling capacity within the port, increasing it to more than 40 million tons per year, by 2025.

During the announcement of the works on the visit to the Port of Itaqui, Dino notes that they will be public-private investments, with great importance for the economy of Maranhão and with broad multiplier effects, mainly in the generation of employment and income.

The governor of Maranhão also said that the production, logistics and works that are already being carried out at the port terminal will have a great capacity to boost the state's economic growth.

Emap talks about investment value in the works of the port terminal

Ted Lago, president of Emap, highlighted the achievements of state management, in the case of the administrative management of the Port of Itaqui. According to Lago, during the administration of Governor Flávio Dino, the Port of Itaqui began to experience a new concept of rapid growth, not to mention the investments made over the last few years. Lago also said that there are more than R$ 2 billion in public and private investments.

The president of Emap also spoke about the works that are already being delivered inside the port and opened a caveat to the attitude of the Government of Maranhão in announcing a program of more than R$ 500 million in investments that will be applied in the coming years.

The investments include deepening dredging, the construction of a new berth number 98, repairs to the buildings that serve as operational support, as well as entrances, road infrastructure and adjustments to the sanitary sewage of the port's polygon. Other beneficiaries will be the ferry terminals at Ponta da Espera (São Luís) and Cujupe (Alcântara, inland Maranhão), which will have their ramps widened.

Suzano Papel e Celulose will also be part of the work package of the Government of Maranhão

Manager Raquel Murad, who is part of Corporate Relations at the Suzano Papel e Celulose unit located within the Port of Itaqui, spoke about the importance of this package of actions promoted by the Government of Maranhão. Murad reported that it is a great pleasure to be concluding the Itaqui project, which will be part of the consolidation of pulp exports in Maranhão.

The Corporate Relations manager also spoke about the exclusive cradle for Suzano, which assists in the export of products from Suzano's manufacturing unit inside the port terminal, in addition to a warehouse guaranteeing all the storage and success in the export of products, with tranquility and security.

Taking advantage of the trip to the Port of Itaqui, the governor of Maranhão inspected the structural recovery works of berths 103 and 106, the reformulation and modernization of the entire electrical system at substations 1, 2 and 3, in addition to also inspecting the emergency response base at the Ponta da Espera Ferryboat Terminal.
