In a Video Recorded as He Arrived in Macaé, Marco’s Mother and Father Were Waiting for Him at the City’s Entrance. The Next Step Now is to Secure an Offshore Job

Marco Antônio Araújo, 32 years old, traveled from his hometown Catu (91.6 km from Salvador) in Bahia to Macaé in Rio de Janeiro in search of offshore job opportunities, and most shockingly, totally on foot, a journey that could take more than a day, considering he could have gone by car. The reason could not be more noble: unemployed, the man from Bahia aims through this journey to draw the attention of local companies and thus secure an offshore job. Overall, between the cities of Catu in Bahia and Macaé in RJ, it is 1,500 km; he has been making this journey in search of an offshore job since the end of October.

The Beginning of the Story: In Search of Offshore Job Opportunities in Macaé

It all started after Marco Antônio became unemployed in 2015. According to him, Catu was a major oil industrial hub, which ended up lacking options due to the economic crisis that devastated the sector at the time.

From that point on, the resident of Catu in Bahia devised an idea he had been contemplating for two long years in an attempt to attract recruiters’ attention and secure one of the many offshore job vacancies, thus reestablishing his return to the job market.

According to him, the basic courses in the area (Drilling Tower Operator) have already expired, which would require an investment of around R$ 5,000. On his Instagram profile, containing photos and videos where he recounts his journey from Bahia to Macaé, he also shares the difficulties he has faced since the beginning in search of an offshore job.

Marco Aurélio was welcomed by his parents upon arriving in Macaé. For him, there are no words to describe such a moment; he believes that soon he will be able to reap the fruits of all his struggles and secure an offshore job opportunity, but he emphasizes that the journey itself is what truly holds value.

“We live in a competitive society that focuses only on the final result. So this is a way to convey the message that the journey is much more rewarding and valuable than the simple outcome. This journey is actually a message about focus, strength, and faith,” reflects Marco.

“I am speechless for a moment like this; it never crossed my mind to expect such a surprise—arriving in Macaé with my parents waiting for me! It’s indescribable without tears; mom and dad, you are infinitely great. I love you so much!” concludes Marco Araújo.
