The Fully Electric Hot Hatch from Abarth Will Be on Sale in the UK in Summer 2023, With Expected Prices Above £35,000. The 500e Will Compete with Other Retro-Inspired Electric Hot Hatches Like the Alpine R5 and the MINI Electric.
The 500e, the first fully electric hot hatch, builds on the regular 500 EV formula, adding several key features to give it a sportier profile. The main one is a boost in the front electric motor, offering 152 hp (up from the 117 hp of the Fiat version) and 235 Nm of torque, resulting in seven seconds from 0 to 100 km/h.
Specifications of the Fully Electric Hot Hatch
The new model is less powerful than its stable combustion engine sibling, with the 695 producing 177bhp and 250Nm of torque, resulting in a 0-62mph time of 6.7 seconds.
The engineers of the fully electric hot hatch are quick to point out that it can navigate the test track faster thanks to its wider width, longer wheelbase, and instant EV torque. The 500e also features a new sound generator and amplifier – programmed from a sample of the exhaust note of the gasoline-powered 695 – to help provide a more intense listening experience.

Design Details of the Fully Electric Abarth 500e Hot Hatch
The exterior style adjustments for the fully electric Abarth hot hatch include a more aggressive front bumper, side skirts, and rear diffuser, as well as sportier 18-inch alloy wheels. It also has large “Abarth” lettering on the front and deck lid, as well as Abarth decals on the sides.
The convertible version of the fully electric hot hatch features a spoiler integrated into the fabric roof, while the hatch seen here has tinted rear windows. Each Abarth 500e features a revised version of the brand’s “scorpion” logo.
The ratings do not stop at the exterior, as inside you will find a three-spoke sport steering wheel, sport seats, leather upholstery with bright trim and stitching. There’s also a panoramic roof, an upgraded audio system, a seven-inch digital instrument panel, and a standard 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment setup with a “performance page” designed to display owner performance data. Abarth claims that the latest platform of the 500 (currently not shared with any of Stellantis’s sister brands) gives the model a wider track, a longer wheelbase, and better weight distribution than the older combustion-engine 500. These gains and stronger acceleration figures helped the 500e to pass its Balocco test track faster than its ICE predecessor, the brand states. The Abarth 500e can choose between three driving modes. Designed for everyday driving, the Turismo mode has reduced power and torque (132hp and 230Nm) for a smoother experience.
Battery and Charging of the Fully Electric Hot Hatch
The fully electric Abarth 500e uses the same 42kWh battery as its sibling, the Fiat; however, due to the increased power of the motor, the range drops from 199 miles to 155 miles. Nevertheless, the company confirmed that its version will have the same maximum charging rate of 85kW DC. This will be capable of providing around 30 miles of range in five minutes and taking the almost empty car to 80% capacity in just over 30 minutes.
The fully electric Abarth 500e comes in a fully loaded Scorpionissima version, available for pre-order through the enthusiasts’ club. The rest of us will be able to order the car starting next spring, and it is expected to be in the dealerships in the UK in early summer 2023.
There is still no information about pricing for the fully electric hot hatch, but expect the hot hatch to start at £35,000. We anticipate a cheaper version shortly after the Scorpionissima model.
