Noting the advances in sustainability in the auto industry, Hyundai has launched its first hydrogen-powered car capable of delivering a range of 900 km and being refueled in just 5 minutes.

Currently, the car market is focused on electric or electrified cars, such as the MHEV and PHEV hybrids. However, the truth is that not everything about such vehicles is flowers, especially in terms of batteries, which is still a headache for the sector. It was with this in mind that Hyundai debuted on the market with its new hydrogen-powered car.

In Australia, Hyundai's first hydrogen-powered car is now available on the market. The vehicle is capable of covering 900 km on a full tank and, while moving, it still purifies the air. For the first time, hydrogen fuel cell technology is applied in a commercialized car and is able to have such a high range with low charging time.

The model that received the hydrogen cells was the Hyundai Nexo, a small displacement car that reaches all car manufacturers in the world and even breaks a record in terms of sustainability.

The vehicle has only 6,27 kg of hydrogen and is able to purify 449.100 liters of air during a single trip, contributing to the environment and the breath consumption of more than 30 people during the day. In addition, the exhaust pipe of the Hyundai car only emits water.

Hyundai's hydrogen-powered car can be recharged in just 5 minutes

The Hyundai model does not produce any type of polluting gas, such as CO2. A vehicle equivalent to the Nexo, but with a traditional combustion engine, when traveling the 900 km of autonomy, emits more than 125 kg of polluting gases.

The hydrogen engine enters the market to join the electric and be part of the sustainable mobility solutions that the world is adopting. In order for electricity to be generated, Hyundai's vehicle uses a hydrogen fuel cell system that passes the gas through a structure of membranes where it meets the air taken from the external environment, a process that feeds the electric motor.

What is left of the electricity that is generated, including the energy accumulated during braking, is stored in a lithium-ion battery. In addition to all these details and autonomy, the model can be refueled in just 5 minutes, a time that can be equal to or less than that of a combustion car.

Toyota gains prominence with its hydrogen-powered car

In July, Toyota conducted tests of its hydrogen-powered Corolla. The racing model was equipped with a 3-cylinder engine modified to burn hydrogen like a common internal combustion engine.

Toyota, in addition to innovating with its Corolla, in June, also broke the world record for the distance traveled by a car powered by hydrogen with the Toyota Mirai model.

A total of 1.000 km were driven on French streets, with zero pollutant emissions and with a single fuel supply. It is worth mentioning that the model's record could have been even higher, considering that at the end of the journey the model still had 9 km of autonomy.
