ICMBIO Plans to Launch a New Public Competition with Hundreds of New Positions. Opportunities Will Focus on Higher Education Candidates.

The Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBIO) is planning to open a new public competition that may have up to 887 positions. This was the number requested by the interim president of the entity, Marcelo Marcelino de Oliveira, in a letter sent to the Ministry of the Environment.

Positions Offered in the ICMBIO Competition

It is important to mention that Minister Marina Silva confirmed on the 11th that the selection process should be one of the next federal selections authorized by Esther Dweck, Minister of Management.

According to Marina, on the 11th, it was already possible, along with the Ministry of Management, to hold the public competition for IBAMA, the Ministry of the Environment, and ICMBIO. Those who took the public competition and were on standby will also be immediately called, on an emergency basis.

This is a significant effort for the sector, which has been completely devastated. It is worth noting that the new request for the ICMBIO public competition is larger than the previous one submitted last year, which was for 730 positions.

In the previous request, 467 positions were for technicians, requiring high school education, and 263 for analysts, with higher education. The new request for 887 positions is solely for higher education roles, distributed as follows:

Environmental Analyst (503 Positions)

The Environmental Analyst works in managing processes related to the environment within a company. This role is responsible for ensuring the minimization or elimination of environmental impacts of the company or industry in which they operate, in compliance with the legislation.

This role may also work directly with environmental licensing, which is the control instrument for activities that utilize natural resources and, thus, are potentially polluting or degrading to the environment.

Administrative Analyst (384)

These professionals are responsible for operating extensively and executing administrative tasks related to various areas. Their goal is to make processes more efficient and profitable based on the analysis and management of human, financial, and other resources. Thus, they work on data collection and analysis, trend identification, among others.

Learn About the Last ICMBIO Competition

The last ICMBIO public competition is still ongoing. This public competition started in 2021, to fill 171 positions, with 110 for environmental technicians and 61 for environmental analysts. The organizing body was Cebraspe, and the placements of the approved candidates were directed to the following states:

  • Acre;
  • Pará;
  • Maranhão;
  • Amapá;
  • Rondônia;
  • Amazona.

The evaluations of the selection process included questions on the subjects of Portuguese language, administrative law concepts, management concepts, legislation, public integrity, computer science, specific knowledge, and current events.

Get to Know ICMBIO

In practice, ICMBIO cares for biodiversity throughout the national territory. It is the true result of the reorganization of IBAMA. Previously, IBAMA was responsible for such decisions and actions in the realm of managing conservation units and Brazilian biodiversity.

Moreover, the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation is responsible for carrying out actions for national policies regarding federal conservation units, executing policies related to the sustainable use of natural resources, and exercising the power of environmental law enforcement.

In summary, the Institute should, for example, support the establishment of the National System of Conservation Units (SNUC), linked to the proposition, management, implementation, inspection, protection, and monitoring of federal conservation units.

Additionally, it is known that ICMBIO also oversees and enforces administrative sanctions of an environmental or compensatory nature. The entity imposes these sanctions on those found in violation of environmental legislation committing illegal acts.
