Government Authorizes Import of LNG from Other Countries
The Brazilian government authorized a local unit of the Anglo-Dutch oil company Shell to import liquefied natural gas (LNG) from various countries to supply the Brazilian market. Shell indicated that the LNG will be transported by sea and will have as potential markets the thermal power plants, gas distributors, and free consumers. According to the publication, the delivery location for the LNG import in Brazil will be the regasification terminal in Baía de Todos os Santos, in Salvador, Bahia.

According to a publication in the Official Gazette of the Union this Wednesday (17), authorization was granted by the Ministry of Mines and Energy to Shell Energy of Brazil Gas, involving a total import volume of up to 36.5 million cubic meters of LNG.
Valid until March 31, 2024, the government’s permission for operations will be limited solely to business involving LNG, according to the ordinance published by the ministry.

Government Permissions Will Allow the New Gas Market
The government also approved the import of gas from other companies, including units of the steelmaker Gerdau, all published in the Official Gazette of the Union.
Also with a delivery location at the terminal in Salvador, Bahia, Gas Bridge Comercializadora was authorized by the government to import up to 25.6 million cubic meters of LNG from various countries to supply the market in the Northeast and Southeast. It is worth noting that the permission is valid until 2024.
With the first company authorized to bring in up to 150,000 cubic meters per day, Gerdau Summit Aços Fundidos e Forjados and Gerdau Aços Longos received approval for imports from Bolivia. The second company from Gerdau will import up to 50,000 cubic meters per day for two units of the group and up to 100,000 cubic meters per day for another. The authorizations are valid until 2024.
The Ministry of Mines and Energy also gave the green light for gas purchases from Bolivia by CDGN Logística, which anticipates a total import volume of up to 4 million cubic meters per day. The approval is valid until December 2023.
