Increase in the number of investments in the offshore wind energy market generates prospect of job openings

About 80% of energy consumption in the Northeast and more than 10% of total energy in Brazil correspond to wind energy and possibly new investment in offshore wind should arrive and generate prospects for new job openings. Investments in the deployment of offshore wind power generators will increase this share. The technology is widely used in England and Norway and the Brazilian coast has more favorable climate conditions for investments than in northern countries.

According to Fitch Solutions, investments in offshore wind projects in new and emerging markets will see offshore wind gain a larger share of the total wind energy market globally in the coming year.

Currently, there are more than 66GW of offshore wind energy investments in pre-construction or construction of nearly 162GW of wind energy projects in these phases, and most of them are in the Western Europe region. However, countries outside this region will help drive growth starting this year, with the United States (9,1 GW), Taiwan (5 GW), South Korea (3,4 GW) and the northeast region of Brazil being most significant in this context.

New job openings and investments in the wind energy market offshore

Brazil's second source of electricity, after hydroelectric power, wind energy represents a significant part of job vacancies in Brazil, which remains among the 10 most users of wind energy in the world.

Brazil is the second country that most generates employability in renewable energies. In 2019, 1.158 million people were working on some form of renewable energy.

In the group of the biggest employability generators, only the U.S.A. lost vacancies: every 100.000 vacancies were lost between 2018 and 2019, while Brazil added about 30.000 in the same period. As a result, Brazil now ranks among the largest employability generators in the sector, behind China, with 2,2 million employees.

Offshore wind energy market leverages in 2021

As projects that were delayed in 2020 will be accelerated this year, the global report predicts an increase in offshore wind distributed generation capacity growth this year, especially those with tight commercial operation timeframes.

Brazil has been an investment scenario, shareholders from other countries are already looking at the Brazilian waters and winds to apply the new offshore wind energy market.
