About the Company

As a U.S. fast-food restaurant chain, it uses the original fried chicken recipe from Kentucky, created by Colonel Harland Sanders, founder of KFC, in 1939, in the city of Corbin, Kentucky, in the United States. Currently, the company is headquartered in Louisville and belongs to Yum! Brands, a subsidiary of PepsiCo.

The company started using the abbreviated form of its name in the 1990s, aiming to shift the emphasis away from chicken, as it planned to market other types of food, in addition to distancing itself from the unhealthy connotations of the word fried and because it believed a shorter name would attract a younger audience.

In addition to fried chicken, many KFC restaurants serve sides such as coleslaw salad, cakes, various types of potatoes, and corn on the cob. The KFC chain also offers other food items like popcorn chicken, chicken strips, burgers, pies, and many more.

In Brazil, the company arrived through Pepsico during the 1960s, with several locations in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. Despite relative success, the company closed its points of sale in the late 1970s, reopening a few years later.
