Channel Analysis Indicates That Citroën C3 Is R$ 10,000 Cheaper and New Basalt Costs Only 10% More, Highlighting the Cost-Benefit of the Version.
The Renault Kwid Outsider, the top-of-the-line version of the subcompact, is priced in the Brazilian market at R$ 85,000. This price, according to a compelling analysis by the specialized channel Carro Chefe, “is crazy” and “doesn’t make sense” in the current competitive context. The central critique is not aimed at the car itself, which often competes for the title of the cheapest in Brazil in its entry-level versions, but specifically at the questionable cost-benefit of this adventurous version.
The analysis by Carro Chefe delves deeper by putting Renault’s model side by side with its direct and indirect competitors from Stellantis itself, specifically Citroën. The crux is that a Citroën C3, a larger car of a superior category, can be found for R$ 10,000 less in its entry-level version, or for the same price in a more equipped 1.0 configuration, making the choice of the Kwid Outsider difficult to justify.
The “Adventurer” at R$ 85,000
The Kwid Outsider is marketed by Renault as the “top” option of the model. While the entry-level version, Zen, starts at around R$ 78,000 after adjustments, the Outsider jumps to R$ 85,000. This additional amount mainly brings visual appeal items, such as exclusive version stickers, roof bars (which Carro Chefe points out are merely decorative, with warnings not to load weight), and hubcaps that imitate alloy wheels.

With a 1.0 engine producing 75 hp and costing less than R$ 70,000, Fiat’s car returns to the podium as the cheapest in the country; a temporary promotion for the 2026 Like version reduces the price of the Fiat Mobi.

With a mild hybrid system of 48 V, 176 hp and a price of R$ 175,990 in the Sahara version, the new Jeep Renegade changes mostly on the inside, improves slightly in fuel consumption, and remains almost the same car.

With a 293.5 cm³ engine and a range of up to 400 km with a 14.1-liter tank, the Honda CB 300F Twister 2026 has up to 24.7 hp, an initial price of R$ 25,150, and already exceeds R$ 29,000 in the Fipe Table.

With a 1.3 engine, nearly 700 km of range, and Turbo 200, the Fiat model surpasses Polo, Tera HB20, and Onix, becoming the best-selling car in March; see the numbers for the Fiat Strada and others.
Internally, it is equipped with the Media Evolution multimedia system, compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (both via cable), and stands out for its four airbags (two front and two side). However, the channel’s analysis highlights that, even being the most expensive version, the car retains hard plastic finishes, exposed screws, and notable absences for a car priced at R$ 85,000, such as height or depth adjustment for the steering wheel and rear electric windows, which are still operated by a crank.
The Shadow of the C3: Cheaper or Equivalent

The most critical point raised by Carro Chefe is the competition within the same price range. “There are larger, cheaper cars,” states the host during the evaluation. A Citroën C3 1.0 entry-level (Live Pack version), for example, currently costs around R$ 75,000. Although it is also a car with simple finishes, it offers significantly more interior space and robustness, being a project of a superior category (compact hatchback), costing R$ 10,000 less than the top-of-the-line Kwid.
The situation of the Kwid Outsider becomes even more complicated when looking at the more equipped versions of the C3 itself. According to the channel, a more complete C3 1.0 manual (Feel Pack version) falls within the same price range, between R$ 85,000 and R$ 86,000. The question raised by the analysis is straightforward: why choose the cramped subcompact at the same price as a more spacious compact hatch with superior trunk space?
Basalt on the Horizon: 10% More for an SUV
The “craziness” of price positioning, as defined by Carro Chefe, doesn’t stop at the C3. The analysis points to the recently launched Citroën Basalt, the brand’s coupe-SUV. “If you put 10% more, you get a Basalt,” highlights the channel. This would place the entry-level Basalt, with the same 1.0 aspirated engine and manual transmission, in the range of R$ 93,500.
Although the host defines the Basalt’s 1.0 aspirated engine as “weak, just like this one [the Kwid]”, the dimensional gain is incomparable. The interior space of the Basalt is described in the analysis as that of a “studio apartment”, addressing the main complaint about the Kwid: the extreme tightness in the rear seat, classified by the channel as “claustrophobic” and with nonexistent space for the heads of average-height adults.
The Problem Is Not the Car, It’s the Price
The analysis by Carro Chefe makes a point of noting that the Kwid Outsider is not an altogether bad car, highlighting its objective qualities. It is praised, for example, for its 1.0 three-cylinder engine with timing chain (considered more reliable than the oil-bathed belts of competitors), the weight of only 825 kg which ensures reasonable agility in the city, and a trunk of 290 liters, considered good for the subcompact segment.
The channel’s verdict is clear: the problem with the Kwid is not the project itself, but the price charged for it in Brazil. The host emphasizes that if the car cost “35 thousand”, its defects (such as primitive finishes and lack of basic adjustments) would be perfectly acceptable. “There’s a price, in fact, there’s a high price and low quality”, concludes the analysis, referring to the value proposition of the Outsider version.
What Do You Think?
The analysis by Carro Chefe positions the Kwid Outsider at R$ 85,000 as an irrational buying choice in the current scenario. With competitors offering more space for less money (entry C3) or for the same price (equipped C3), and an SUV (Basalt) available for only 10% more, the value of Renault’s top-of-the-line version seems to be in question.
Do you agree with this analysis? Do you think the adventurous look and 4 airbags justify the R$ 85,000, or do you also see more logic in a C3 or even in saving a bit more for the Basalt? Leave your opinion in the comments.
