Land Rover Has Just Launched Its Luxury SUV Focused on Sustainability. The Hybrid Land Rover Defender Can Deliver Up to 760 km of Range.

The wave of hybrid SUVs has just gained another member. Land Rover brings to Brazil the new Defender P400e. The SUV gains a plug-in hybrid powertrain option and is equipped with a gasoline engine. Notably, the hybrid Land Rover Defender achieves a range of up to 760 km and can reach 30 km/l in fuel consumption.

Hybrid Land Rover Defender Delivers Over 400 Horsepower

Available only in the 110 body style and for up to 5 people, the Defender P400e PHEV is quite different from the MHEV version, the only one sold until now. In the new model, the 2.0 Ingenium engine delivers 300 horsepower and runs on gasoline. It is paired with an electric motor of 104 horsepower and a battery with a capacity of 19.2 kWh. Together, the SUV provides 404 horsepower and its 100% electric range is 51 km, according to the WLTP cycle. The combined range of both engines is up to 760 km.

It is important to highlight that PHEV models are hybrids and must be recharged at a special outlet. The Land Rover Hybrid Defender P400e PHEV comes equipped with a Mode 3 charging cable. Using a 7 kW charger, the SUV takes 2 hours to charge from 0% to 80%.

The new hybrid model equipped with the PHEV setup delivers more power than the SUV versions equipped with the 3.0 6-cylinder turbo-diesel engine. The Defender PHEV emits only 74 grams per kilometer driven, according to the manufacturer. Furthermore, the figure released by Land Rover regarding the SUV’s fuel consumption is remarkable. It can achieve up to 30.3 km/l. Its top speed is 191 km/h and it can go from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.6 seconds.

Sold in the X and X-Dynamic HSE versions, the new hybrid Land Rover Defender features many standard items. It includes 20-inch alloy wheels, air suspension, All Terrain Progress Control and Terrain Response 2 systems, Meridian sound system, LED Matrix headlights, fog lights, Windsor Ebony leather seats, Pivi Pro infotainment system with an 11.4-inch screen, and more items. The X variant also comes with a head-up display, three-zone climate control, and additional equipment. The new PHEV SUV from the brand has an initial price of R$ 760,250.

The plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) is a car that operates with an internal combustion engine and another electric one. However, despite having the combustion engine as support, it comes from the factory with a charging cable. This vehicle can offer even more benefits than other hybrid vehicles.

The driver can choose to use only the electric motor. Contributing to reducing fuel costs and decreasing greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs), PHEVs have larger batteries with greater capacity than other hybrid vehicles, such as lightweight ones, among other advantages.
