The New Offshore Experiment Arose After The Titanium Pumps Were Tested On Ships Operating In Brazil. After That, They Will Be Inserted In The FPSO In Guyana

The centrifugal pumps based in the United Kingdom and manufacturer of associated equipment, Amarinth, won an order from VWS Westgarth for two titanium pumps, which will be used aboard the FPSO One Guyana ship from SBM Offshore, intended to work for ExxonMobil in Guyana.

Amarinth announced on Monday, 28, that it was tasked by VWS Westgarth to supply the two Offshore API 610 OH2 titanium chemical-enhanced backwash pumps, following the successful delivery of similar pumps for two FPSO vessels operating in Brazil.

For Oliver Brigginshaw, managing director of Amarinth, “We are very pleased that VWS Westgarth has placed a new order with Amarinth for these API 610 OH2 titanium offshore pumps for ships. This is based on the successful delivery of a previous order to VWS Westgarth and further highlights our capabilities in supplying API 610 pumps, manufactured in exotic alloys, that operate reliably in the extremely harsh conditions experienced on FPSO vessels.”

Titanium Manufactured Pumps

Representatives from the United Kingdom also explained that all wet parts of the ship pumps would be made from titanium – including casings, impellers, and shafts – to handle the highly corrosive fluid.

As titanium is “a difficult material to work with,” it must be melted under total vacuum using copper crucibles to prevent the molten titanium from attacking the walls of the crucible, the Offshore company explained.

Amarinth emphasized that it has “a strong relationship” with its ship supply chain, allowing it to source hard-to-obtain titanium components, while the United Kingdom has “one of the few foundries in the world” capable of melting the large titanium components necessary for the pumps.

Certifications for FPSO Offshore Pumps

The API 610 OH2 ship pumps will have ATEX Zone 2 certification for hazardous areas with IECEx certified motors. With limited space inside the FPSO vessel, Amarinth pointed out that the design includes a custom base plate that incorporates a local control station within its footprint.

According to the company, the offshore pumps will be supplied on a tight delivery schedule of 38 weeks, which is necessary to fit with the FPSO construction being carried out in China and combines the new multi-use hull construction with several standardized topsides modules.
