Drillship Norbe VIII Arrives at Guanabara Bay for Maintenance; Heads to Drydock in Rio Grande do Sul. Vessel Operates in Water Depths of Up to 3,048m.

Today, the drillship Norbe VIII, operated by Foresea, a leader in the offshore drilling sector, docked at Guanabara Bay for maintenance. The vessel left its operational position and is heading for important services that will ensure its efficiency in deep waters, as it is capable of operating in water depths of up to 3,048 meters.

Later this month, the drilling vessel will be transferred to drydock in Rio Grande do Sul, where it will undergo additional services. The drillship Norbe VIII is crucial for complex offshore operations and will be subjected to a rigorous maintenance program to ensure its optimal performance. These procedures are fundamental for the safety and efficiency of drilling operations, ensuring that the drilling platform is in excellent condition for future projects.

The vessel will proceed to Rio Grande do Sul, where it will continue the work in drydock at the Rio Grande Shipyard. This will be the second time that Foresea will have one of its 240-meter-long drillships completely out of the water.

First Complex Operation

The first operation of this kind, conducted in a pioneering manner in Brazil, took place between June and August 2023, when the drillship ODN I spent 66 days in drydock out of the water. ‘The maintenance of drillships of this size in drydock is a complex and challenging operation, but, in some cases, it is necessary for us to continue meeting the highest standards of safety and efficiency in the market. We have the expertise and are very proud of our pioneering efforts in this type of maintenance in the country’, comments Foresea’s COO, Heitor Gioppo.

Capabilities and Facilities

The Norbe VIII can accommodate up to 180 people and has a tower that stands 64 meters tall. This drilling vessel is prepared to operate in drilling operations in deep and ultra-deep waters. For more details about the vessel, visit: https://www.foresea.com/perfuracao-offshore/#norbe-viii.
