The Construction of the Fifth Macaé-Class Patrol Vessel, NPa Miramar, Strengthens National Defense and Boosts the Economy with Innovation and Job Creation.

The Brazilian Navy took another important step to strengthen national defense by starting today the construction of the fifth Macaé-class patrol vessel, NPa Miramar. The keel-laying ceremony took place at the Navy Arsenal of Rio de Janeiro (AMRJ) and marked the beginning of the assembly process of the new vessel, which is expected to be delivered between 2026 and 2027.

The work began with the installation of a central block weighing 11 tons, a structure that will support the construction of the hull. This is yet another milestone of the Patrol Vessel Acquisition Program (Pronapa), which has already resulted in the delivery of three operational vessels: Macaé (P70), Macau (P71), and Maracanã (P72). In addition to Miramar, another vessel of the same class, NPa Mangaratiba (P73), is under construction at the same arsenal, with a projected launch date in March 2026.

Construction of the Fifth Macaé-Class Patrol Vessel Moves the Local and National Economy

Built at the Navy Arsenal of Rio de Janeiro (AMRJ), the construction of the fifth Macaé-class patrol vessel reinforces the resumption of Brazilian naval capacity, moving more than 11 tons at the beginning of the project.
Built at the Navy Arsenal of Rio de Janeiro (AMRJ), the construction of the fifth Macaé-class patrol vessel reinforces the resumption of Brazilian naval capacity, moving more than 11 tons at the beginning of the project.

The new patrol vessels, weighing 500 tons, play a crucial role in protecting Brazil’s interests both at sea and in inland waters. According to the Brazilian Navy, the project strengthens the country’s presence in the defense and technological innovation landscape, ensuring sovereignty and security in naval operations.

In addition to the strategic impact, the construction of the fifth Macaé-class patrol vessel stimulates the local and national economy. Part of the Growth Acceleration Program (PAC), Pronapa integrates the Innovation for the Defense Industry axis, generating direct and indirect jobs and fostering the industrial base of the sector. More than ten partner companies are involved in the project, which keeps the production line of AMRJ active, essential for the development of Brazilian shipbuilding.

Brazilian Navy Has Been Striving to Innovate

Since the delivery of NPa Maracanã in 2022, the Navy Arsenal of Rio de Janeiro has stood out in preserving and expanding knowledge in construction processes. This expertise has enabled advances in the projects for Mangaratiba and Miramar, strengthening the Brazilian Navy’s commitment to innovation and expanding its technological capacity.

With the start of construction of the fifth Macaé-class patrol vessel, the country continues to consolidate its position in the naval sector while ensuring greater protection of its waters and strategic investments in the future.
