MEC and UFRGS Offer 75 Spots in Free Improvement Course in Braille and Audiodescription. The Course Lasts 180 Hours and Will Be Held from October to December 2024. Don’t Miss This Chance to Specialize in Inclusive Education!

An opportunity that promises to transform inclusive education in Brazil has just been launched.

In a joint effort to promote the improvement of teachers and education professionals, the Ministry of Education (MEC) and the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) are offering a 180-hour course on Braille, Audiodescription, and Mobility.

If you are looking for specialization in a fundamental area for inclusion, this may be the chance you have been waiting for.

But don’t think it’s just another course. The proposal is ambitious and aims to empower educators to more effectively assist students with visual impairments.

However, the registration deadline is short, and the number of spots is limited. You need to pay attention not to miss this opportunity.

Opportunity for Training in Inclusive Education

According to the MEC, the Improvement Course in Orientation and Mobility, Braille, and Audiodescription is already open for enrollment and will be offered for free and remotely, with spots available for all of Brazil.

The course’s main objective is to develop the necessary skills for public school teachers to implement pedagogical practices aimed at serving students with visual impairments.

The partnership between MEC and UFRGS opens 75 spots, exclusively designated for professionals working in basic education in the public network of Rio Grande do Sul.

However, if you are an educator outside of this target audience, similar opportunities may arise soon.

Details About the Spots and Course Load

The course has a total load of 180 hours, equally divided between theory and practice. In-person classes will take place on Fridays and Saturdays at the Faculty of Education at UFRGS, located in Porto Alegre.

The practical activities include modules such as Orientation and Mobility, Audiodescription, and Braille System, covering both writing and reading in Braille.

According to the announcement, classes will be held between October 18 and December 14, 2024, always on Fridays (6 PM to 10 PM) and Saturdays (8 AM to 6 PM).

This schedule was planned to allow teachers to balance the course with their regular school activities.

Target Audience and Distribution of Spots

The primary target audience is public school teachers, with priority given to those working in basic education. The distribution of spots follows the criteria below:

  • 20 spots for Early Childhood Education teachers;
  • 20 spots for Elementary School I teachers;
  • 20 spots for Elementary School II teachers;
  • 15 spots for High School teachers.

The spots are limited, and according to MEC, the selection will be made on a first-come, first-served basis. Only one teacher per institution will be selected, but if not all spots are filled, more than one professional per school may be accepted, following the order of form submission.

Training That Can Change Lives

The initiative seeks to promote a more inclusive and accessible education, equipping teachers to better meet the needs of students with visual impairments.

According to UFRGS, this is an important step in ensuring that educators are prepared to deal with the challenges of inclusive education, transforming pedagogical practices and enabling each student to reach their maximum potential.

The expectation is that this type of action can be expanded to other states, bringing the training model to a national level. However, at this first moment, the opportunity is available exclusively for public school teachers in Rio Grande do Sul.

Schedule and Course Modules

The course will be divided into modules, each covering an essential aspect of inclusive education. The detailed class schedule is as follows:

  • Orientation and Mobility Module: October 18 and 19, October 25 and 26.
  • Audiodescription Module: November 8 and 9, November 22 and 23.
  • Braille System – Writing and Reading Module: November 29 and 30, December 6 and 7.
  • Academic-Critical Writing Production Module: December 13 and 14.

Each module will have practical and theoretical moments, preparing teachers to apply the knowledge acquired directly in the classroom.

Don’t miss this unique opportunity to improve and contribute to inclusive education. The Improvement Course in Orientation and Mobility, Braille, and Audiodescription is an excellent chance to acquire essential knowledge to promote the inclusion of students with visual impairments.

According to the organizers, this initiative has the power to transform public education, making it more accessible and suitable for everyone.

How to Enroll in the Course

Registrations are now open and must be made exclusively electronically, through the official link provided by MEC. The final deadline to enroll is September 22, 2024, and up to 200 registrations will be accepted, from which 75 participants will be selected for the course.

After the registration process, approved candidates must complete their enrollment between September 30 and October 2, 2024.

How can Brazil expand these training initiatives to other regions, ensuring inclusive education throughout the national territory?
