The initiative, called “MAIS Ciências Humanas e Sociais Aplicadas” (MAIS CHSA), is promoted by the Ministry of Education (MEC) and takes place on the AVAMEC platform, in a self-instructional format, allowing each participant to organize their studies according to their own routine.
Training in Human Sciences Aligned with the New High School
The course is part of a set of actions aimed at implementing the National High School Policy (PNAEM), focused on building a more democratic, inclusive school that is connected to the reality of students.

The proposal is to support the work of teachers and other education professionals in the area of Human Sciences and Social Applied Sciences, contributing to the deepening of content and the revision of pedagogical practices in light of the new guidelines for high school education.
Throughout the training, MEC seeks to strengthen principles such as equity, pluralism of ideas, teacher autonomy, and the fight against structural inequalities that pervade the Brazilian education system.
The course also dialogues with legal frameworks of education, such as the Law of Guidelines and Bases of National Education (LDB) and the National Curriculum Guidelines for High School (DCNEM), serving as support for state networks, the federal district, and private institutions to review their curricula and formative itineraries in Human Sciences.
Curricular Structure and Workload of 180 Hours
The “MAIS Ciências Humanas e Sociais Aplicadas” has been structured as a 180-hour improvement course, offered entirely in the Distance Education (EAD) modality.
The entire course takes place in a virtual environment, accessible via the internet from a computer or mobile device, with no need for in-person meetings.
The training is self-instructional: there are no tutors accompanying the classes, and the participant is responsible for managing their study pace, advancing through the content and completing the assessment activities as they see fit.
According to the information provided, the course is organized into six modules, which combine theoretical study, case analysis, reinforcement activities, and a final evaluative module, mandatory for certification.
The study materials include texts, reflection proposals, and digital resources, focusing on the articulation between academic content and pedagogical practice.
The curricular design follows a logic of progressive deepening: concepts addressed in the initial modules return in more complex situations in the following modules, promoting a broader understanding of the field of Human Sciences and Applied Social Sciences.
Central Themes and Approaches of Training
Although the main focus is on Philosophy, History, Geography, and Sociology, the course addresses these subjects in an integrated way, as a field of Human Sciences and Applied Social Sciences.
The aim is to support educators in critically interpreting the territory, social relations, and contemporary conflicts, always in dialogue with the reality of each school.
Among the highlighted axes are the fight against misinformation and the so-called fake news, discussions about curricular justice, and the appreciation of ancestral knowledge and different epistemologies, including decolonial, feminist, and black perspectives.
The intention is to offer theoretical tools for educators to problematize hegemonic discourses, recognize inequalities, and build practices committed to social justice and the digital citizenship of students.
Additionally, the course engages with current debates on youths, curriculum territorialization, identity and belonging, reinforcing the role of Human Sciences in citizen education and understanding themes such as democracy, human rights, structural racism, gender inequalities, territorial exclusions, and environmental challenges.
Target Audience and Profiles Attended
The training is primarily aimed at high school teachers who work in the components of the area of Human Sciences and Applied Social Sciences, that is, teachers of Philosophy, History, Geography, and Sociology, from public or private networks.
These professionals constitute the priority audience, especially in networks that are revising curricular matrices and formative itineraries in light of PNAEM.
The course is also open to pedagogical coordinators, educational technicians, school administrators, and undergraduate students interested in deepening the topics addressed.
Since it is a training in MEC’s open platform, with national and broad availability, the distribution of 10 thousand spots aims to accommodate professionals from different regions of the country and profiles in basic education.
Free Certification and Approval Criteria
At the end of the training course, those who complete the six modules and all mandatory tasks will be entitled to a free certificate of 180 hours, issued by the AVAMEC platform itself.
The certification is released digitally, for download, and is available in the participant’s environment after approval.
The evaluation occurs in two fronts: reinforcement activities distributed throughout the modules and a final evaluative module, which consolidates the studied content.
To be approved, the participant must achieve a minimum score of 6.0 in the set of evaluations defined by the course.
If the required performance is not achieved, they will not have access to the certificate, even after completing the entire workload.
According to MEC, the course is of continuous flow, with no selection process: there is no entrance exam or performance screening.
Thus, as long as there are open spots and the registration is completed, the participant can start studying immediately, respecting the pedagogical criteria and deadlines defined on the platform for the completion of the training.
How to Register for the MEC E-Learning Course
To participate in “MAIS Ciências Humanas e Sociais Aplicadas,” interested individuals should access the AVAMEC platform, the virtual learning environment of the Ministry of Education.
Those who do not yet have a registration must create an account, using email and CPF directly on AVAMEC or opting to log in with their gov.br account information.
