In Goianira (GO), Caroline discovered she built the house on the wrong lot after investing about R$ 25 thousand. After the confusion, agreements, and donations, she begins a new construction on the right lot and hopes to be with her daughters in the new home.
The drama that appeared at the beginning of the year: the house ready, but in the wrong place. At the beginning of the year, the TV Serra Dourada newscast, from SBT, showed the case of a woman in Goianira who realized the dream of her own house, but on the wrong land, on Aroldo Barbosa Street. She invested everything she had and, even without intending to take anything from anyone, saw the project collapse all of a sudden.
Caroline herself summarized the feeling and her stance in the face of the mistake:
“I don’t want something that isn’t mine; therefore, it isn’t mine. If I have my lot, why would I invade someone else’s? Then, we made the agreement, and they said they would help. Thank God they are helping, right?”

In January, she spoke about how shaken she was to discover she had built in the wrong place and how it even affected her work:
“In January of this year, we showed the struggle of the young woman who discovered she had built her house on the wrong lot on Aroldo Barbosa Street, in Goianira. I can’t even work because I deal with people; I’m afraid I’ll cry there, break down, then have to deduct it because things are already tough, having to deduct from me, so it will be even more difficult. I feel that I can’t do it alone this time because it took me 3 years to build.”
Watch the video below and see how it all happened:
What She Had Built and How Much It Cost: Simple, But Complete
To save money, Caroline worked for a long time selling candies and sweets on the streets of Goiânia. With that, she raised a simple house, with three rooms and a bathroom, and even structured basic items that are expensive for any family: a deep well, septic tank, and power connection. The amount invested was around R$ 25,000.
The shock came on December 30, when she was surprised by an unexpected visit:
“I was sleeping, right? I woke up with them knocking. I first asked who it was. Then she said: “It’s the owner of the lot.”
The Emotional Fall and The Burden of Exposure
After that, she and her family decided to start over, but it wasn’t simple. Caroline reported profound sadness and a crisis of depression:
“Caroline and her family decided to start over, but it wasn’t easy. I was sad and everything, eh, I kind of had a depression crisis. It was hard even to start building and everything, but it was kind of difficult. And, like, a lot of people looked, a lot of people helped, and also a lot of people criticized.”
The family also recognized that, without help, the new beginning wouldn’t even be happening:
“Without everyone’s help, what is happening here now wouldn’t be happening. We asked God, first, to give us a light. And then God blessed that, right, you all came, did this here, right, and she was in a very difficult stage.”
Turnaround: The Right Lot and a New Construction, Now With Support and Donations
The “turning point” is clear: the right lot. That’s where Caroline begins to rebuild what seemed lost. The land was donated by her mother in 2022. After months of uncertainty and confusion, with donations and her savings, she started the new construction.
With the little they had, they bought the first materials. And there is an important detail: Caroline mentioned that, after much negotiation, the owners of the old lot began to support her. In other words, the case moved towards an agreement and help — something she herself had already mentioned at the beginning.
How the New House Will Be: Larger, Better Structured, and With a Goal by November
The idea now is to build a house with five rooms, a bathroom, deep well, septic tank, and power connection. The mason Antônio Batista, known to the family, is helping with the work and explained that he got involved to lend a hand, trying to balance cost and work:
“That’s right. I know it’s good people, and they are also going through a phase. Then they called me, and I’m going to lend a hand for the sister there, right? It doesn’t cost too much, and I’m trying to do it at a lower rate, but still moving forward without making it too expensive for either side.”
Meanwhile, Caroline left the old house and moved to rent. She hopes to raise the walls of the new home and ensure shelter for herself and her two daughters.
If Caroline’s turnaround touched you in any way, leave a comment below with your opinion — and, if you can, share the text so more people can understand how a new beginning can arise when the community decides to lend a hand.
