The Multinational Vestas Developed a Wind Power Tower About 199 Meters Tall. The Wind Tower Was Developed to Operate Onshore and Is Equivalent to a 66-Story Building.

Vestas, a Danish company specializing in renewable energy, announced last week the development of the tallest onshore wind power tower in the world. The wind tower stands 199 meters tall, and to give an idea of this dimension, this height is equivalent to a building of approximately 66 stories.

Vestas Structure Is Designed for the European Market

Vestas claims that the wind tower is particularly essential in European countries, where there is not a large area for installing parks, thus making it possible to optimize investment in height, maximizing renewable energy production.

The first units of the GIGANTIC wind power tower, capable of producing 7.2 megawatts (MW), are expected to be destined for Germany and Austria, potentially entering operation as early as the beginning of 2025.

The expansion of wind power parks has been significant, and in offshore plants, turbines are already positioned at heights much greater than Vestas’ wind power tower. This is the case with GE, which has the Haliade-X, with a tower height of 260 meters and blades with a diameter of 107 meters.

Vestas Focuses on the Offshore Operations Market

In addition to this newly developed wind tower, Vestas has also developed a project to verify how the world’s first crew transfer vessel powered by green hydrogen can contribute to reducing CO2 emissions during its operations at sea.

The project was created in partnership with Windcat Workboats, which owns the largest global fleet of vessels performing offshore operations. The vessel is powered by a hybrid fuel derived from hydrogen, specifically marine diesel.

New Wind Farm in Bahia

Also this year, Vestas and Pan American Renewable Energies signed a supply contract for 94 X150-4.5 MW wind towers for the Novo Horizonte wind farm, located in the state of Bahia.

According to Vestas’ president in Latin America, Eduardo Ricotta, Vestas is pleased to further expand its partnership with Pan in Latin America with this wind energy project, which will begin operations to generate renewable energy in Brazil.
