MSC Preziosa Conducts First Cruise Since the Start of the Pandemic Towards Búzios

With the advancement of vaccination and new safety protocols being followed, most tourist activities are gradually returning after being suspended for more than a year due to the pandemic. Thus, the cruise conducted on the MSC Preziosa towards Búzios symbolized the return of this activity. About 3,100 people participated in this trip on the ship and the resumption of cruises was authorized by the Federal Government to ensure that the tourism sector does not stop in the country.

Passenger safety is essential at such a moment, and the MSC Preziosa spared no effort in enforcing strict safety protocols to conduct the cruise. The operations director of Concais, Sueli Martinez, stated that “What we see are very relaxed people. All sanitary protocols are being followed. Those who usually travel by cruise already know how strict the protocols are.”

The cruise on the MSC Preziosa also marked the beginning of the 2021/2022 cruise season in the country, which commenced last Friday, (11/05). Only on this trip, 3,100 people participated, and it is expected that over the course of the 70 days of the season, approximately 474,000 people will cruise from the terminal, thus symbolizing a safe return of this activity, which will benefit tourism in the country and the port sector.

Safety Protocols are the Main Concern for the 2021/2022 Cruise Season

The 2021/2022 season began with the MSC Preziosa cruise, and the Port of Santos is optimistic about the numbers for this period. The forecast is for 6 ships to pass through the port by April 2022, which will generate around R$ 132 million for the region’s economy. Still, the main concern of the port sector currently regarding the return of cruises is the safety protocols that must be followed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The operations director of Concais, Sueli Martinez, commented on the new protocols and stated that “We [Concais] provide the infrastructure, and the shipowner carries out the check procedures as established by Anvisa.” Furthermore, the executive highlighted one of the main protocols that were established and are being followed, stating: “We requested a reduction in the number of daily staff to ensure necessary distancing.”

All new safety protocols for cruises have been established by the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) and include practices such as wearing masks, social distancing, passengers must be vaccinated, and at least 10% must be tested for COVID-19 daily. Only then can the return of cruises occur safely and without risks for passengers, just as it happened with the cruise conducted by MSC Preziosa.
