Focused on hybrids, Toyota will use diesel engines in the new generation of the Hilux that is expected to arrive in 2024, with even greater power and torque. In addition to it, the SW4 and Land Cruiser Prado will also have the same type of propulsion.

Toyota is focused on offering a hybrid engine for all products and apparently not even the Hilux will be left out. The manufacturer is developing an unprecedented hybrid engine, which will combine diesel engines with an electric engine, according to information from the Japanese website Best Car. Among the models that will receive the new set of engines are the Hilux, mentioned above, the SW4 and the Land Cruiser Prado.

New generations expected to arrive in the Brazilian market in 2023

The electric motor will increase the torque, which is something normal in these engines, but its main objective is to save the effort of the combustion engine and reduce its consumption even more.

One of the engines that will be used in the Hilux, SW4 and Land Cruiser will be a four cylinder 2.5 turbodiesel or the powerful V6 3.5 turbodiesel. Both connected with an electric motor and the first of the trio to use the engine will be the Land Cruiser Prado, which is expected to hit the market in mid-2023. After the debut, the new engines should reach the Hilux, the SW4 SUV and even the Hiace, which has plans to start manufacturing in the coming years.

According to the president of Toyota in Argentina, Daniel Herrero, the production of the Hilux will take place there, at the automaker's unit in Zárate, and he also states that its development has already begun.

New Hilux with diesel engine could arrive in Brazil in 2024

New Toyota Hilux SRX – MORE POWER IN DIESEL. NOW YES, THE BEST PICKUP IN BRAZIL?

Hybrid engines should notably increase the pickup's efficiency, resulting in higher torque and power numbers, with even better performance and low consumption. The novelty will also collaborate with the reduction of vehicle emissions levels, something that has been gaining more and more importance with the perspective of rigidity of the norms in the long term.

Depending on the combination that Toyota adopts for its hybrid diesel engines, it will also be possible to install the electric motor on the rear axle, offering a more up-to-date all-wheel drive to the Hilux compared to the traditional axle system. Given that the electric motor delivers a high level of torque at all times, it should also contribute to the vehicles' towing and loading capacity.

The prediction is that the new generation of Toyota Hilux will make its global debut between the years 2024 and 2025, preserving production in Argentina along with the SW4. The premiere in Brazil should take place in the same period.

Toyota is the first to launch a hybrid flex car in the world

Being the first to launch a hybrid flex car worldwide, the automaker is working to place Brazil in a good position in its global strategy for electric cars, and is also looking to expand with hybrid and hydrogen models.

According to the president of Toyota in Latin America and the Caribbean, Masahiro Inoue, in the case of the Brazilian automotive market, the best option would be hybrid engines, given that this type of propulsion takes advantage of the benefits of ethanol, a biofuel in great abundance in the country, and also leaves aside investments in recharging networks for electric cars.
