The New Amarok Will Be Made in Argentina With an Investment of US$ 580 Million. The Model Premieres in 2027 With Local Design, SAIC Platform, and Total Focus on the South American Consumer.

Attention, lovers of rugged trucks with a refined soul: the new Amarok is coming. And it’s coming in full force. Volkswagen confirmed that the next generation of its midsize truck will be launched in 2027, produced exclusively in Argentina, with a revamped DNA to fit perfectly into the South American market.

The investment is serious: US$ 580 million to transform the General Pacheco plant into an innovation hub on wheels. And the foundation of the project? An unlikely (and powerful) alliance with the Chinese at SAIC, who provided the platform of the Maxus T90 to bring the new model to life — but with Volkswagen adding all the local flavor.

What Changes With the New Amarok?

Practically everything. But calm down: the robust essence of the Amarok remains. The difference is that now it will speak with an Argentine accent, use Chinese components, and wear a design drawn in Brazil. Yes, the new look will be 100% developed by Volkswagen’s Design Center in South America — which means more aggressive lines, modern solutions, and that tropical touch that only those who live on dirt roads understand.

And while Ford is already seeing success with the new Ranger in the region, VW decided to take a more independent path. No using the global project. The new Amarok will be exclusive to the South American market, designed from the ground up to please those who tackle holes, mud, cargo, and city all in the same day.

Chinese Platform, German Performance

It may seem unusual, but the partnership with SAIC — Chinese giant — was the way found to accelerate the development of the new Amarok without depending on the European global project (which won’t come here). The Maxus T90 platform serves as a structural base, but all the engineering and dynamic tuning will be in the hands of the Volkswagen team.

In other words: it will have that Amarok feel, yes. But with a new heart, updated chassis, and much more connectivity on board. There are still no official details about the engine, but it’s quite likely that the new generation will maintain diesel options and, perhaps, even an electrified version on the future radar.

And Until Then, What Happens With the Current Amarok?

It will stay strong on the track. The current version, with a V6 turbo diesel engine, continues to be produced until the successor’s launch. It’s the typical “hang tight, more is on the way.” The 2024/25 Amarok still has market power and should maintain momentum in Brazilian dealerships, especially for being the only V6 diesel in the segment in several regions.
