Urban project gains strength in the North Zone with modern structure, expansion of operational capacity, and promise to transform public transport in the region
The city of Niterói continues to strategically advance in the construction of the new Caramujo Bus Terminal, located in the North Zone, consolidating one of the most relevant projects for urban mobility in the municipality in recent years. With an investment of R$ 34 million, the project promises not only to increase the capacity of public transport but also to offer more comfort, safety, and efficiency for passengers, drivers, and workers in the sector.
According to information released by the Niterói City Hall, the teams from the Niterói Infrastructure and Works Company (ION) have already reached important stages of the schedule. In this sense, the masonry work of the administrative building has already been completed, as well as the slab of the main building, demonstrating significant progress in the physical structure of the project.
Additionally, the plumbing installations and rainwater drainage systems have also been completed, ensuring that the project advances on a solid foundation and efficient technical planning. Currently, the bus bays are in the concreting phase, while the assembly of the metal structures and the installation of the roofs are scheduled for next month.

With approximately 20,000 square meters of total area, the new Caramujo Bus Terminal has been designed to meet the growing demand of passengers in the region. The space will feature 24 bus bays, in addition to another 20 extra spaces, significantly increasing the operational capacity of the public transport system.
On the other hand, the project also includes a complete infrastructure aimed at the comfort and convenience of users. Among the main highlights are parking for vehicles and motorcycles, commercial shops, a food court, kiosks, and social areas.
Furthermore, the terminal will offer modern restrooms, baby changing facilities, drinking fountains, information desks, escalators, and elevators, reinforcing the commitment to accessibility and inclusion. Thus, the proposal goes far beyond a simple boarding and disembarking point, transforming the location into a true urban mobility hub.
Complete administrative structure reinforces operation, safety, and public service
Another highlight of the new Caramujo Bus Terminal is its administrative headquarters, which has been planned to ensure operational efficiency and quality in public service. The space will feature a structured reception area, a generator area, and a waste management center, in addition to luggage storage and a lost and found department.
At the same time, the structure includes changing rooms, a staff break room, and a cleaning materials storage area, providing better working conditions for the teams involved. In terms of operations, the terminal will have a room for the Operational Control Center, as well as spaces dedicated to maintenance and security.
In this context, the project includes a fire brigade, a warehouse, and rest areas for drivers, reinforcing care for all professionals working in the system. Additionally, there will be service sectors from the Niterói City Hall, expanding the services available to the population.
The information was released by the Niterói City Hall, which has been highlighting the project as part of a set of actions aimed at modernizing urban infrastructure and improving mobility in the city. According to the official planning, the delivery of the new terminal is scheduled for 2027.
Thus, the Caramujo Bus Terminal emerges as an important milestone for urban development in the North Zone, directly contributing to a more efficient, organized, and accessible transport system for all.
