The Construction of The New Food Factory in Minas Gerais
The mayor of the city, Angelo Oswaldo, announced on Monday (10/4) the winner of the bidding that granted such concession, for non-remunerated use and with charges. The future factory, which will generate 300 new jobs, will be the first construction of the lot of the Industrial District, which has an area of 45,013.35 m² and which, according to the mayor, will become an industrial hub in the district of Cachoeira do Campo.
“Ouro Preto is a city that lives off mining and tourism, and now we will bring companies for the long-awaited diversification of the city’s economy. And the Industrial District will effectively be a hub generating jobs and income.” According to the mayor, the bidding process for the factory was opened after finding irregularities in the previous administration, which granted the concession of the area to another company for the establishment of a venture that would generate about 20 jobs.

Dispute for Construction on The Site
The Superintendent of Economic Development of Ouro Preto, Samuel Sabino Freitas, reports that the bidding started in May 2021 and three companies participated in the tender, competing on the criteria of the number of jobs that would be generated in the construction of new factories in the state of Minas Gerais, potential pollution, and robustness of the company, such as social capital and time of existence.
“GSA Alimentos scored the maximum points in four of the five evaluation criteria, winning the bidding on October 4.” According to the superintendent, the tender is part of a program by the city hall, known as The Economic Development Plan of The Municipality of Ouro Preto, which involves several departments of the administration and aims to attract companies to the city. The city hall aims to generate one thousand jobs in the city by the end of 2023.
