The plant is located in Nova Iguaçu, but Seropédica, where the largest sanitary landfill in Latin America is located, is also getting a biogas plant that will be used in industries and vehicles.

The municipalities of the state of Rio de Janeiro, Seropédica and Nova Iguaçu, gained two new plants that will use biogas as fuel to power thermoelectric plants and in industries and vehicles.
The plants were inaugurated yesterday (04/07), belong to Gás Verde SA and will produce biogas and gas from landfill waste, which is much purer and less polluting than gas from petroleum.

Gás Verde SA declared that after refining the biogas it is sold as fuel in industries and vehicles, while the gas taken from the garbage will feed the company's thermal power plant.

Seropédica Landfill

Both plants were installed in the state of Rio de Janeiro and one of them is located in the municipality of Seropédica, where the largest sanitary landfill in Latin America is located.
The landfill receives approximately 10 tons of garbage per day from other municipalities in the state and the new plant will have the capacity to produce 200 cubic meters per day.

To give you an idea, this volume is capable of filling the tank of 13 vehicles. When fully operational, the unit will produce 73 million cubic meters of renewable natural gas (GNR) per year.

Nova Iguaçu Embankment

The other plant was built in Nova iguaçu, in the Baixada municipality of the state of Rio de Janeiro, whose landfill is managed by Foxx Haztec.
The gas is purchased by Gás Verde and is used to power a thermoelectric plant it owns, which uses 9,5 cubic meters of biogas per hour and produces 150 megawatt hours (MWh) of energy per year, which meets the consumption of 70 thousand homes.

Gás Verde is very proud of the start-up of two new plants that will produce cleaner energy than thermal plants powered by coal, oil and natural gas.
Apart from the contribution to the environment aimed at reducing gases that cause the greenhouse effect, the plants will also contribute as an additional source of income for landfills.

The world's largest solar energy farm opens in the United Arab Emirates. With 3,2 million panels, Noor Abu Dhabi can produce up to 1,18 gigawatts.
