We Have a Lot of Oil Producing in Brazil but There Is No Way to Refine It, Comperj Could Solve This Problem Avoiding Purchase of Products from Abroad
The Comperj will complete 10 years since the beginning of the works in Itaboraí-RJ on March 31, but due to corruption schemes uncovered by the Lava Jato operation that inflated the costs, the operations of the enterprise were halted for investigation. The Petrochemical Complex of Rio de Janeiro was designed to process about 8% of Brazilian oil production and to drain the pre-salt production of the Santos Basin.
According to ANP (National Agency of Petroleum), while the production of oil derivatives declined by 4.7% in 2017 compared to 2016, exports hit an unprecedented mark of 206.8 million in 2017, in other words, Brazil is paying more for foreigners to refine the oil produced here. The country extracts, sends it abroad, and then buys it back, raising the price of everything we consume in the country.
The Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) decided to take the lead in the situation and created a task force to stimulate investments in the refining and petrochemical segment in Brazil, of which Comperj is one of the main scopes. In approximately 2 months, this report will be presented to the National Energy Policy Council (CNPE), which will certainly find solutions to this problem.

The forecast for the resumption of works, according to Petrobras and the union, is for March of this year. The Chinese company Shangdong Kerui along with its associated enterprise Método Potencial took over the works after winning the bidding opened by Petrobras in 2017 for the amount of R$ 1,947,000.00. Now it is just a matter of signing the contract with Petrobras, and IESA will be responsible for the hiring. Not to mention other third-party companies that are waiting for the signing of indirect service contracts.
