The number of pre-salt fields has been increasing, as well as competition between companies and their technologies for oil growth

The mood of companies in the oil and gas chain grows, with the return of the pre-salt auction calendar. With the progress in this field, companies are preparing to offer various types of new technologies to help companies overcome the technological challenges imposed by nature. An example of these companies is Ocyan, which entered into a partnership with Magma Global to offer the market CompRise, a new model of hybrid riser focused on deep and ultra-deep waters. According to Ocyan subsea director Marcelo Nunes, one of the advantages is resistance to corrosion. He also stated that if there is opportunity and interests beyond Brazil, the company will also operate outside the country.

This technology is a decoupled system, where its structure as a whole connects to the production unit with the help of jumpers, which will be a single extra weight that the unit will receive.

Its main differences are the exchange of the carbon steel risers at the end for the Magma duct, which is made of composite (which contains several elements). The buoy duct and, consequently, allows to reduce or even eliminate 100% of the buoys that were attached to guarantee that the structure floated. In addition to changing the carbon riser for the composite, there is also the flexibility to connect to the flowline, while providing buoyancy.

The great challenge of the pre-salt is the corrosion caused by carbon dioxide (CO2) and hydrogen sulfide (H2S), and this technology had as its main path, the application in deep and ultra deep water fields, that is, the pre-salt. The CompRise structure was designed to operate exactly in this type of environment.

In addition to the CO2 and H2S resistance, it is possible to assemble such a structure in less than thirty days, in addition to a series of cost reductions where you have an extremely noble material. Before, the assembly period lasted more than four months, due to the need to weld all the piping.

Ocyan expects to compete in all deep and ultra deep water fields, for example Sépia, Mero, Pão Açúcar among others, all areas of Petrobras and IOCS.

There is still no forecast of when this entire qualification process will be completed, but Ocyan supports Magma in this process, despite not having a date or any assumption to go to the market yet. There are already some design analyzes in partnership with operating companies, even if there are no sales negotiations yet.

The market in the pre-salt area is growing and companies like Ocyan are thinking about improvements and better opportunities, but for that they realize they need to innovate. As well as professionals, who must be aware of the market, the changes, qualifications and requirements of each area of ​​activity.
