To Recall the Past, Opel Manta Launched Its New Electric Car with Interior and Exterior Design Reminiscent of the Famous Chevette Shark, but This Time Without Gasoline or Diesel Combustion Engine

The manufacturer Opel Manta, abandoning gasoline and diesel combustion engines, announced an electric car that resembles the good old Chevette Shark. The electric car is named Manta GSe ElektroMOD.

The electric car is a recreation inspired by the Manta, which was launched over 50 years ago, featuring a design very similar to the Chevette Shark, but with many changes, such as the combustion engine, which used gasoline and diesel to operate, replaced by an electric motor with 147 hp of power and over 20 kgfm of torque.

And it doesn’t stop there; the battery has a capacity of 31 kWh and also features an energy recovery system through braking. The transmission remains a 4-speed, but, there is something new: the driver can use the transmission in a simulated way or simply engage the fourth gear and go in automatic mode.

Design of the New Chevette Aimed at Classic Car Enthusiasts

The style of the old Chevette is present in the current electric car, such as the well-defined three volumes, circular dual headlights, headlights integrated into the grille, recessed bumpers, small mirrors mounted on the doors, and rounded window outlines. However, despite these old Chevette details, the new electric car adopted more modern features, such as LED headlights and taillights and 17-inch wheels.

The same goes for the interior of the Chevette, with a simple design that strongly resembles a classic model. The steering wheel has no controls, the windows are crank-operated, but with an electric option, and the parking brake is mechanical.

Manufacturers Are Moving Away from Gasoline and Diesel Combustion Engines

Electric cars are increasingly gaining ground in the automotive sector. This is due to a simple reason, which is the low emission of gases that, when compared to combustion engines, gasoline and diesel, show significant differences.

To curb emissions, Tesla was the first company to sell electric cars on a large scale, and, seeing that consumers embraced this sector, other companies are planning to completely abandon their production of vehicles with combustion engines that rely on unsustainable fuels such as gasoline and diesel.

Some of the brands include Jaguar, Ford, Volvo, Audi, Bentley, Daimler/Mercedes Benz, Volkswagen, and many other well-known brands in the market are embracing this market transition. Some of these automakers, to ensure that classics are not forgotten, are launching electric cars with designs resembling old models, such as this one from Opel and another from Hyundai that recalls the Passat.
