With Fuel Prices Reaching Record Highs, the Chamber of Deputies Is Analyzing the Bill That Could Create Fuel Assistance Worth R$ 250
Brazil is one of the countries where consumers pay the highest prices for fuel. The rise in fuel prices generates several negative impacts on the economy, such as inflation and unemployment. According to Agency Chamber of News, in an attempt to mitigate the impacts of the problem, the Chamber of Deputies is analyzing the Bill 535/22, which creates Fuel Assistance for some sectors.
The text highlights that taxi drivers, app drivers, school van drivers, truck drivers, and others, as well as low-income families registered for fuel assistance, will be entitled to the benefit of R$ 250 per month. The amount of Fuel Assistance will be adjusted every six months according to the average variation of fuel in the period.
The Bill 535/22 also has an interesting fact. If approved, it will come into effect only on October 31, 2022, after the second round of the elections.

“For low-income populations, the price of fuel is prohibitive, and professionals who use vehicles are struggling more each day with routine price increases,” said Deputy Alexandre Frota, the author of the bill.

The deputy does not want the fuel assistance law to be used as a campaign platform in case of approval. “This proposal takes care not to use its potential approval as a campaign platform, nor any eventual possibility of exchanging registration in the future program for votes in the next elections,” concluded Frota.
Congress Approves PLN That Facilitates Fuel Price Reduction
Last Thursday, the National Congress approved the National Congress Bill (PLN), which allows for the reduction of fuel taxes without the need to compensate for loss in revenue.
The approval of the PLN means that governments will have more flexibility to reduce taxes and, consequently, reduce the price of gasoline and diesel.
Juscelino Filho, from União Brasil, the rapporteur for the PLN, stated that the increase in fuel prices in Brazil is the result of a combination of factors.
“The PLN aims to create conditions for the due evaluation and approval of proposals that incorporate the reduction of taxes affecting fuel price formation,” said the deputy.
The approval of the National Congress (PLN) is essential for reducing fuel prices. Usually, the federative entity that agrees to forgo revenue needs to indicate another source of resources.
