Government Launches PDE (Decadal Energy Plan 2029) That Forecasts Significant Increase in Oil Production and NewFPSOs
Bento Albuquerque, from the Ministry of Mines and Energy, launched yesterday (11) in Brasília, the Decadal Energy Plan (PDE 2029), which addresses the future expansion prospects of the energy sector over 10 years. In the oil and gas sector, the expectation is for a growth of 71% in oil production (5.5 million barrels per day by 2029) and 42 new FPSOs.

The plan states that the pre-salt will be responsible for about 77% of national oil production, with the Santos Basin being the main scenario. The government also predicts that with the increase in production associated with the marginal increase in refining capacity, Brazil could become a net exporter of oil.

In the refining sector, the plan considers that with the start of operation of the emissions reduction unit (SNOx) at the Abreu e Lima Refinery (Rnest) in 2021, the first train of the plant will have the capacity to process 130,000 barrels per day (30% more). The second train, with the same refining capacity, will come online in 2024.
In the natural gas market, the estimates are also positive. The estimate is that Brazil will reach 2029 with a total consumption of 87.6 million m³/day of natural gas, an increase of 10 million m³ compared to the projected figure for 2019.
