Specifications of the Bidding Process of Petrobras for the FPSO That Will Be Installed in the Sergipe-Alagoas Basin
In an interview, Rittershaussen stated that a bidding process has been initiated for hiring through the Built Operate and Transfer (BOT) model, by which the charterer operates the platform for some time and then transfers it to Petrobras. The process aims for a unit of the FPSO type.
João Henrique says that the FPSO BOT for the deep-water project in the Sergipe-Alagoas Basin is already underway and that companies are already working on the process. According to him, Petrobras is expected to receive proposals next year.

The BOT model is new for Petrobras, although the company had anticipated in February of this year that it intended to work with this option for the deep waters of the Sergipe-Alagoas Basin. In the interview, Rittershaussen also highlighted that Petrobras has been making strong efforts to reduce platform implementation time, as well as to reduce construction time and increase the efficiency of the units.
Drilling Contracts
The Petrobras director stated that the company currently has 22 drilling rigs in operation, and the portfolio is expected to range between 20 to 25 rigs between 2021 and 2025, as planned by the company. Rittershaussen emphasized that several drilling contracts will end by 2023, but the company is conducting new bids.
João Henrique says there is some likelihood that the rigs already in Brazil will win this bidding, as they are already in operation, have no mobilization costs, and do not need to make significant investments to continue operating with Petrobras. He also stated that Petrobras’s focus is on the pre-salt, which receives 70% of Petrobras’s investment and has shown “excellent productivity,” highlighting that the company does not anticipate drilling new wells in shallow waters.

Petrobras formalized the sale of its stake in the Rabo Branco oil field, located in the Sergipe-Alagoas Basin in the State of Sergipe. The sale amount was US$ 1.5 million, to be paid in full at the time of contract signing. The Brazilian state-owned company and the operator Petrom1 each hold 50% of the Rabo Branco oil field.
According to Petrobras, this operation aligns with the strategy of optimizing the portfolio and improving the company’s capital allocation, which has increasingly focused resources on world-class assets in deep and ultra-deep waters.
