Petrobras has reached an important milestone in its offshore decommissioning process by obtaining partial approval for the Decommissioning Program for the P-09 platform just 14 days after submission to the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama).

The announcement was made by Lucia Laureano, Environmental Licensing Manager at Petrobras, highlighting the unprecedented speed of the environmental agency’s analysis of the document, which requested only one technical clarification for final approval.

In the case of the P-09 platform, located in the Campos Basin, the PDI presents analyses of alternatives for decommissioning, environmental impact assessments, waste management plans, and proposals for the final disposal of structures.

The preparation of the document strictly followed the guidelines established by ANP Resolution No. 817/2020 and the technical criteria required by Ibama, which contributed to its rapid approval.

Efficiency in the Regulatory Process

The record approval time for the PDI of the P-09 platform demonstrates the technical quality of the work developed by the Environmental Licensing team at Petrobras and the efficiency of Ibama in analyzing the document.

“This approval in just 14 days represents a significant advance in environmental licensing processes for offshore decommissioning in Brazil,” Laureano highlighted. “Typically, these processes can take months or even years to be completed.”

The speed in issuing the favorable opinion is crucial for meeting the decommissioning schedules established by Petrobras and for optimizing the financial resources allocated to these operations.
