The use of reused water in the emergency response network is the result of a partnership between Reduc and the Petrobras Research Center (Cenpes)
Petrobras announced yesterday (20/08) that its Duque de Caxias Refinery (Reduc) started using reused water to keep the unit's emergency response system pressurized. Recruitment and Selection to work on maintenance shutdown at the Petrobras refinery – REFAP, on this day
The Water Network to Combat Emergencies (Race) was connected to the refinery's Water Treatment Unit last month, recording a 4% to 5% reduction in the refinery's raw water consumption
So that it can be used in firefighting systems, for example, the water cannot contain oil residue or other substances incompatible with the production of foam.
Scheduled for 2021, the next reuse action at Reduc is the implementation of the project to use treated effluent as replacement water for the refinery's cooling towers, which will represent sufficient reuse to supply a city of 70 inhabitants.

“The use of reused water in the emergency response network is the result of a partnership between Reduc and the Petrobras Research Center (Cenpes) and paves the way for other operating units of the company to implement this type of reuse for their treated effluent”, explains Reduc's Water and Effluent manager, Alexandre Rodrigues Cezar.
The total reuse volume at Petrobras last year was 82,2 million m³, which corresponds to 34,4% of the total freshwater demand. To give you an idea, this reused volume would be enough to supply, for example, the city of Porto Alegre for one year.
