During Christmas, Brazilian fuel stations sold diesel for an average price of R$ 5,566, up 45.03% compared to the same holiday last year. The turn of the year will be no different.
The year 2021 will end with the average price of diesel stable at Brazilian fuel stations at R$ 5,612, which represents a decrease of 0.08% compared to November of this year. However, considering the price charged in December of last year, when the average reached R$ 3,841, there was an increase of 46.1% in price, as shown by the latest survey of the Ticket Log Price Index Ticket Log (IPTL). Meanwhile, diesel S-10 also closed the year 2021 with a stable price, quoted at R$ 5,676, representing a decrease of 0.08% compared to November, that is, 46.6% more expensive compared to December of last year.

With the exception of northern Brazil, all regions of the country reported some drop or stability in the price of regular diesel or S-10. In the north, the highest average for regular diesel was R$ 5,836 and for S-10, R$ 5,892, representing increases of 0.03% and 0.05% respectively. In the south of the country, the result was the opposite, being the region with the lowest average price for regular diesel (R$ 5,197) and for S-10 (R$ 5,247) with declines of 0.29% and 0.23% in prices, respectively.
In the analysis by state, Acre sold regular diesel at the highest national average, at R$ 6,337, and S-10 (R$ 6,279). The lowest averages were found in Paraná: R$ 5,108 for regular diesel and R$ 5,162 for S-10.

The largest increase recorded for Diesel (2.04%) was in the state of Roraima, going from R$ 5,945 to R$ 6,066, while the largest decrease in the selling price was in Amapá, which went from R$ 5,856 to R$ 5,730, a drop of 2.15%.
The S-10 diesel with the highest average price increase (0.99%) was in Roraima, which went from R$ 5,964 to R$ 6,023. Meanwhile, the S-10 with the most significant reduction, of 1.44%, was found in Goiás, and the price that was previously R$ 5,692 dropped to R$ 5,610.
According to the Head of Urban Market at Edenred Brazil, Douglas Pina, Brazilians have been feeling the high average fuel prices in their pockets, especially compared to the prices from a year ago. He stated that despite indications of stability in diesel prices and relief from consecutive increases, according to the Ticket Log survey, fuel prices remain high.
Christmas and Turn of the Year with More Expensive Diesel
The Ticket Log Price Index (IPTL) also indicated that on December 24, 25, and 26 of this year, fuel stations sold regular diesel 45.3% more expensive compared to the same period last year, while S-10 diesel had an increase of 44.36%. In Christmas 2020, the average fuel prices were R$ 3,838 and R$ 3,917, respectively, and during this year’s holiday, they rose to R$ 5,566 and R$ 5,654, respectively.
