New SUV From Chevrolet Promises To End The Reign Of Toyota Yaris Cross
Chevrolet plans to position the new SUV below the Tracker, creating a more affordable alternative in the market. With prices ranging from R$ 100 thousand to R$ 130 thousand, the goal is to compete with models like the Toyota Yaris Cross, Renault Kardian, VW A0SUV, Fiat Pulse, and Honda WR-V. The brand will leverage much of the Onix’s structure, using the GEM platform and sharing parts to ensure competitiveness in the segment.
This new version of the Onix SUV will feature characteristics reminiscent of the hatch model, but with significant adaptations. The front will be raised, the suspensions more robust, and the vehicle will gain embellishments on the wheel arches, adopting the classic form of an SUV. However, many internal and structural elements, such as the A and B pillars, will be retained from the original Onix, ensuring the model’s identity.
Additionally, to avoid competing directly with the Tracker, the Onix SUV will have slightly smaller dimensions. The wheelbase will be 2.55 meters, slightly below the 2.57 meters of the Tracker, maintaining the hierarchy among Chevrolet models. The engine will be the well-known 1.0 turbo flex, with up to 116 hp of power and 16.8 kgfm of torque, available in manual and automatic six-speed versions.

But the news doesn’t stop there. According to information from journalist Fernando Calmon, the Onix SUV is expected to arrive on the market with a hybrid-flex powertrain. The setup will include an electric motor replacing the starter and alternator, assisting in starts and cruising speed. This system, similar to that of the Kia Stonic, will increase torque and power, offering a more efficient driving experience.
The new SUV project is part of an investment of R$ 1.2 billion in the Gravataí plant, which will also serve to renew the entire Onix family. The forecast is that the model will be launched in 2026, but it is already generating anticipation in the market. With the introduction of this new SUV, Chevrolet aims to reinforce its presence in the competitive sports utility vehicle segment, offering an attractive option for those seeking a compact, modern, and efficient vehicle.
