The Japanese FPSO Specialist, MODEC, Revealed Two New FPSO Projects That, According to The Company, Will Address The Need for More Deck Space and Greater Storage Capacity, As Well As Extend The FPSO’s Lifespan, Among Other Factors.

MODEC Said: “In Recent Years, Large FPSOs Have Been Based Mainly on The Conversion of Used Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs). However, As A Result of Increases in Oil and Gas Production Capacities, The Topsides Have Become Larger and Heavier, Leading to Insufficient Deck Space and Inadequate Crude Oil Storage Capacity.”

“Furthermore, Customer Contract Durations Are Increasing, Requiring More FPSO Project Lifetimes. In The Future, There Is Expected to Be A Greater Demand for New FPSO Hulls Being Built,” Said MODEC.

In Response to These Demands, The Japanese Company Partnered with Mitsui E & S Shipbuilding and Developed The MODEC NOAH, “A New Generation Hull.”

MODEC Stated That The Hull Design Provides A Large Deck Area to Handle The Trend of Larger, Heavier, and More Complex Topsides, and It Is A Modular Design Concept to Accommodate A Wide Variety of Requirements for Various FPSO Projects, Including Multiple Anchoring Configurations.

The Company Stated That The Shape of The MODEC NOAH Hull, Which Consists of Flat or Two-Dimensional Fold Plates, Would Reduce Construction Costs, Minimize The Impact of Slamming Loads, and Offer Improvements in Accommodation Safety.

The Hull, According to MODEC, Would Be Constructed in A Way That Allows For An Efficient Layout For The Maintenance Activities Needed In Long-Term Operations; And A More Comfortable Living Area for The Crew, Taking Into Account Their Work and Living Environment.

Additionally, MODEC and The Shipbuilding Industry in Dalian, China, Developed A “Second Generation FPSO Hull,” The “M350,” Which Received AIPs from The American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and DNV GL.

“With Two New State-of-the-Art FPSO Hulls in MODEC’s Portfolio, Namely, The “MODEC NOAH” and The “M350,” MODEC Is Well Positioned to Meet The New Market Demands for Larger FPSOs. Furthermore, MODEC Continues to Offer FPSOs Based on The Conversions of Existing Tankers, Depending on Customer Requirements,” Said MODEC.
