Queiroz Galvão hired the Laguna Star drillship to drill a third well in the Early Production System in Brazil

Queiroz Galvão Exploração e Produção SA entered into charter and drilling service contracts with Podocarpus CV and Serviços de Petróleo Constellation SA on September 7, 2018 for drilling wells in the Atlanta field. Drilling is scheduled for the first quarter of 2019, QGEP said in a statement on Monday. The rig may also be allocated to intervention activities to replace damaged submersible pumps in the two producing wells, with the aim of increasing field production.

The Field of Atlanta

Located in Block BS-4, in the Santos Basin, Atlanta is a post-salt oil field located 185 kilometers from the city of Rio de Janeiro, in a water depth of approximately 1.500 meters. The period estimated by the company for drilling the third well is approximately 90 days, which may be renewed for an additional 90 days, for intervention activities in the two current producing wells. The global amount estimated and approved under both contracts is up to US$26 million. QGEP started oil production from its Atlanta offshore field using the initial production system in the form of the Petrojalr 1 FPSO in May 2018.

Current Situation at the Atlanta Field

Due to the malfunction of the well pumps, immediately after start-up, the pumps on the seabed were activated, reducing the previously estimated production levels. As a result, in August QGEP revised its average daily production estimate for the field to 13.000 barrels per day from the two producing wells, with the potential for a 10% variation, whether greater or lesser when the average daily production for the period is verified. When the field started production, the company expected daily production to reach around 20 barrels of oil in the second quarter of 2018. The new estimate will remain in effect until the start of production at the third well that will be drilled with the Laguna Star rig . Production from the third well is scheduled for the second quarter of 2019.
