Remote vehicle allowed squid observation
The discovery occurred with the aid of a remotely operated underwater vehicle, known as ROV.
This equipment is controlled remotely and allows exploration of deep areas without the direct presence of divers.
The vehicle’s cameras recorded the animal’s behavior, the arrangement of the eggs, and the habitat conditions.
The image capture took place during an expedition of the scientific mission Polar BLAST.
The trip was conducted on a vessel of the Secret Atlas Micro Cruise Expedition.
The project also received support from the organization Yachts for Science, which provides private vessels for studies in isolated regions.
