New Electric Truck From Scania Will Redefine Mining For Being A Fully Sustainable Vehicle With Huge Range

Scania, the truck and bus manufacturer, is already selling its new electric model: the Scania 25 P. The new truck has two functions as both a tractor and a distribution truck. As the big novelty in the sector, the electric model is being tested in challenging operations at the LKAB mine in northern Sweden.

Scania decided to test the operation of its fully electric trucks in a somewhat inhospitable underground mining environment. The new Scania 25P truck transports waste products and has a total weight, including payload, of 49 tons Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW). It is the first of its kind in the mining industry.

The company Scania operates in industries that are currently undergoing gradual changes in order to achieve grand levels of sustainability.

Conscious And Sustainable Mining

The path to a safe, productive, and 100% carbon-free mining sector begins with iron mining and extends to transportation. The Scania 25 P electric truck has a range of up to 350 km with a payload of 40 tons and a range of 250 km with a maximum total weight of 64 tons.

The new electric-powered Scania truck also provides massive electromechanical force, ensuring operations that require controlled temperature or high energy usage, such as hook lifts and tipper trucks.

It is also possible to notice the batteries in the new truck, which are now assembled internally at Scania to fit perfectly in the reinforced chassis and the new positioning of the charging interface (on the left side, behind the driver’s door).

Directly related to this is the completely revamped heating and cooling system, which maintains the truck and battery components at operational temperature and allows climate control in the cabin – with the touch of a button through our digital platforms.
