The Toyota Corolla, which has been the best-selling sedan in Brazil and remains popular despite the growing popularity of SUVs, will have an updated version soon here in the country.
This year, the Toyota Corolla will feature a series of updates that were first implemented in the European model last year, thanks to a R$ 50 million investment in the Indaiatuba (SP) plant; the European version usually serves as the basis for the version manufactured and sold here.
So far, it has not been revealed whether all features of the European Corolla will be part of the version that will be marketed here in Brazil, but we can confidently say that the flex hybrid model, which achieves 30.2 km/l, and the technical features will be maintained for the Brazilian version.
This update is the first since 2019, when the current 12th model of the Toyota Corolla was introduced here in our market. It is also worth mentioning that this year, Toyota will import the sporty Corolla GR version with over 300 horsepower and launch it in Brazil.

The design of the Corolla in Brazil will mirror what has been used in Europe. The only noticeable changes are a new front grille and redesigned alloy wheels. The Japanese and European hybrid versions have become more powerful than the previous one.
Japan and Europe have also seen improvements in engine and battery efficiency, raising the total system power from 122 to 150 horsepower. However, the 1.8 engine coupled with the electric motor has been preserved.
The increase in power here may be slightly higher due to the flexibility of this mechanical arrangement. Toyota does not disclose the total torque, but the torque of the electric motor has increased by 2.2 kgm.
The 2023 Corolla, including the hybrid model, will feature a 10.25-inch multimedia screen with connection via Bluetooth, Android Auto, and Apple Car Play.
After the updates, the hybrid system achieves an average of 30.2 kilometers per liter (km/l) of fuel in the WLTC cycle used in Japan. Here, the performance of the 100% combustion models should remain the same, including a naturally aspirated 2.0 engine.
The national Corolla’s interior features a 10.25-inch multimedia center. Equipment connects wirelessly to phones via Bluetooth, Android Auto, and Apple Car Play. The European model comes with a dedicated 4G connection and a Wi-Fi router. Additionally, it is expected that the instrument panel will be 12.3 inches and fully digital.
In Europe, a set of technology was implemented, the intersection assistant, to enhance safety. This feature can identify people, bicycles, and other cars, and automatically activate the brakes to prevent a collision. Everything indicates that this function will also be employed in the sedan and the Corolla Cross SUV sold here in Brazil.
