IFMA selection process offers free distance postgraduate courses with hundreds of places distributed in two strategic areas, inclusion through social quotas, and simplified selection without exams, expanding access to public higher education for candidates of different academic profiles and regions.
The Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Maranhão has opened selection for 1,320 places in two specialization courses offered in distance mode.
The process is conducted by Campus São Raimundo das Mangabeiras, has free registration until April 24, 2026, and provides for the filling of vacancies through public electronic lottery, without the application of exams.
The opportunities are for specializations in Agroecology and Rural Education and Information Technology in Education.

Places and format of IFMA’s EAD courses
The offer was divided between 640 places for Agroecology and Rural Education and 680 places for Information Technology in Education.
According to the amended notice, the courses will be taught in Distance Education, with activities developed through a virtual learning environment, allowing students to follow the training remotely, from the chosen center at the time of registration.
Candidates with a higher education completion certificate or with an original completion declaration can participate, provided that the graduation ceremony occurs by May 31, 2026, a requirement that appears among the enrollment documents.
The notice also states that, in the case of a higher education degree obtained abroad, the summoned person must present a transcript, diploma, and a declaration of equivalence to Brazilian studies issued by the State Education Council.
Quota system and inclusion criteria
Half of the places will be allocated to the affirmative action system.
IFMA informs that 50% of the total is reserved for self-declared black, indigenous, and quilombola candidates, as well as people with disabilities, in proportion linked to the presence of these groups in the population of Maranhão, based on the latest demographic census from IBGE.
The quota places that are not filled will be reverted to general competition.
Within this reserved block, another division has also been planned.
The notice stipulates that 50% of the reserved places be directed to students from families with gross family income per capita equal to or less than one minimum wage.
To prove this condition, the candidate needs to attach a registration document in the CadÚnico at the time of registration, along with the specific documentation required for each quota modality.
According to the rules of the selection process, those who choose to compete for a reserved place will also compete, at the same time, for the general competition places.
Self-declared black and brown candidates classified in the quotas will undergo a heteroidentification procedure based on the photograph submitted during registration.
The notice establishes that this image must be attached in PDF format, with a maximum size of 2 MB, frontal framing, good lighting, no makeup, and no editing filters.
How the IFMA electronic lottery works
The definition of the classified candidates will be made by public electronic lottery scheduled for May 6, 2026, at the headquarters of the IFMA Rectory, in São Luís.
The institution informs that the transmission will occur live on the official channel of the institute on YouTube, under the coordination of the Educational Development Directorate.
After the lottery, the names will be organized into a list for enrollment and a list of alternates, which may be used in case of withdrawals.
However, there is an exception provided in the notice.
If the number of approved registrations is equal to or less than the total number of places offered, the lottery may be waived, and all candidates will be summoned for enrollment.
Even so, IFMA states that it will not form a class with less than 50% of the vacancies opened for each offer, a rule that is also part of the conditions of the selection process.
Documents and requirements for enrollment
The enrollment process, for those summoned, will be carried out electronically through the enrollment service integrated with Gov.br, which requires an active account on the platform.
The candidate must fill out the form corresponding to the chosen course and center and attach the requested documentation.
Among the listed documents are identity, CPF, proof of residence, birth or marriage certificate, 3×4 photograph, electoral clearance, and, when applicable, military clearance.
Another relevant point is that the notice restricts changes after registration.
After the submission of the form is completed, changes to municipality, center, name, or CPF will not be allowed, and if there is more than one registration for the same person, IFMA will only consider the most recent one as valid.
There is also a provision for disqualification from the quota system when there is a lack of photograph, medical report, declaration of indigenous or quilombola belonging, or proof of low income required for this modality.
How to register
Registrations will be open from 9 AM on April 10, 2026 until 11:59 PM on April 24, 2026, in the electronic form available on the selection process page on the IFMA portal.
In the registration, the interested party must provide ID, CPF, desired course, partner center, and, if applicable, the quota modality in which they wish to compete, in addition to attaching the required supporting documents as specified in the notice.
The homologation of registrations and other acts of the schedule will also be published at the same official address of the institute.
