TechnipFMC, an oilfield services provider, has been awarded a contract by an ExxonMobil affiliate in subsea system engineering for the proposed Liza Phase 2 project offshore Guyana.

After engineering and subject to the required government approvals, project sanction and authorization to proceed with the next phase, TechnipFMC will then manufacture and deliver the subsea equipment. The delivery will include 30 upgraded deepwater vertical trees and associated tools, as well as eight manifolds and associated controls and mooring equipment, TechnipFMC said Tuesday.

“We are delighted that ExxonMobil selected TechnipFMC to begin engineering the Liza Phase 2 subsea equipment,” said Doug Pferdehirt, CEO of TechnipFMC.

In support of this project, TechnipFMC will continue to hire and train Guyanese engineers.

Liza Phase 1 involves the conversion of an oil tanker into a floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel called the Liza Destiny, along with four subsea drilling centers with 17 production wells. Construction of the FPSO and subsea equipment is underway in more than a dozen countries. Liza Destiny will have a production capacity of 120.000 barrels of oil per day.

The Liza Phase 2 development is located approximately 193 km (120 miles) off the coast of Guyana in the Stabroek Block, with water depths from 1.500 m (4.900 ft) to 1.900 m (6.200 ft). ExxonMobil affiliate Esso Exploration and Production Guyana Limited (EEPGL) is the operator.

A second FPSO with a capacity of 220.000 barrels per day is being planned as part of the Phase 2 development of Liza, and a third is being considered for the development of Payara. ExxonMobil has already submitted a application for an environmental license to develop the second phase of Liza, scheduled to start in mid-2022.
