Tesla and Samsung Closed a Deal Worth US$ 436.7 Million, Which Provides Cameras for Elon Musk’s Electric Pickup and Will Boost the Restoration of the Electronics Component Company
According to the Korean press, the automaker Tesla, owned by billionaire Elon Musk, signed a contract worth US$ 436 million with Samsung Eletro-Mechanics for the supply of camera modules for the electric pickup, Tesla Cybertruck. The electric vehicle is expected to be produced by the end of this year and, in addition to its somewhat futuristic design, will feature several new technologies.

The Cybertruck will also have a camera underneath the front bumper, which will be useful in rocky terrains. According to various South Korean press reports, the agreement between Tesla, owned by Elon Musk, and the electronics component manufacturer is worth US$ 436.7 million and will help Samsung offset the stalled growth in the global mobile phone industry.
Partnership with Tesla Will Help Samsung Recover
The company’s business in electronic components with camera modules and multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) is currently not performing as expected, considering that Samsung Electronics, its main affiliate and customer, reported that smartphone sales are weaker in the second quarter due to the worsening pandemic and increased competition.
The agreement with Tesla for cameras in the electric pickup will help Samsung increase its MLCC business in the automotive sector. The components will be manufactured during the second half of 2021 at the company’s facilities in Tianjin, China.
Cybtertruck and Its New Technologies
With a prototype presented by Elon Musk in 2019, the electric pickup Cybertruck is very close to being launched. In recent months, the CEO of Tesla has offered updates on the design of the pickup, suggesting a slightly more compact version, a robust stainless steel alloy for greater resistance, and solar panels to provide extra range when parked in sunlight.
Earlier this month, Elon Musk stated that the company will add rear-wheel steering, so the electric pickup can make sharper turns and more agile maneuvers.
The Tesla Cybertruck will be produced in small batches, at least until the end of this year, at the Giga Texas factory in Austin, with mass production scheduled for 2022.
