Samsung shipyard confessed to the court having paid about US$ 20 million (R$ 83 million at the time) in bribes to a Brazilian intermediary
Petrobras informed yesterday (25/03) that it received, in the last week, US$ 59,4 as a result of the leniency agreement signed by the Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard, one of the largest ship manufacturers in the world. According to the Brazilian oil company, these resources refer to the second, and last, installment of the agreement with Samsung, out of a total of R$705,9 million that will be used to reimburse Petrobras.
These compensations result from Petrobras' status as a victim in the crimes investigated under Operation Lava Jato.

The Samsung shipyard, one of the largest shipbuilders in the world, confessed to the American court to having paid, between 2007 and 2013, around US$ 20 million (R$ 83 million at the time) in commissions to a Brazilian intermediary. The company said it knew that part of that money was bribing Petrobras employees to guarantee advantages in business with the company.

“With these values, Petrobras exceeds the expressive mark of R$ 5,3 billion in resources recovered through collaboration, leniency and repatriation agreements. Last year alone, for example, the company received R$ 797 million in reimbursement of amounts related to Operation Lava Jato”, said the state-owned company in the statement.
The company will continue to adopt the appropriate measures in search of adequate compensation for the resulting losses caused to it.
About the Operation
Petrobras acts as a co-plaintiff with the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office and the Union in 21 administrative improbity actions in progress, in addition to being assistant to the prosecution in 76 criminal actions related to illegal acts investigated by Operation Lava Jato.
Launched in 2014, the Lava Jato operation exposed a huge corruption scheme involving public companies, such as Petrobras, implicating dozens of high political and economic officials, and leading to the arrest of many of them, such as former Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Silva, currently on parole.
However, the main nucleus (Lava Jato in Paraná) ceased to exist at the beginning of the month, becoming part of another crime-fighting group (gaeco).
