The Central Bank began to monitor the liquidity situation of BRB daily after the end of an agreement with Quadra Capital. In this article, you will understand what motivated the intensification of supervision, what information is being requested by the regulator, and how the case involving Banco Master assets led the bank to more rigorous monitoring.

The Central Bank (BC) intensified, since the beginning of this week, the monitoring of the financial situation of the Banco de Brasília (BRB). According to information obtained by CNN Brasil, the regulatory body began to demand detailed responses about the institution’s liquidity, in addition to the measures taken to reinforce the cash flow.

Furthermore, the BC monitors the bank’s financial capacity daily. The objective, according to sources heard by the report, is to verify the current conditions of the institution and understand how the negotiations for obtaining a loan are being conducted.

Central Bank expands monitoring of BRB’s liquidity

According to information released by CNN Brasil, the supervision was intensified after the BRB terminated an agreement made with the manager Quadra Capital.

Previously, the operation provided for the reinforcement of the institution’s liquidity. However, with the cancellation of the negotiation, the Central Bank began to demand more detailed information about the bank’s cash position.

Moreover, the regulator seeks to clarify:

  • How much money BRB currently has in cash;
  • If there are resources from the Government of the Federal District mixed with the institution’s accounts;
  • How the negotiations for obtaining a new loan are going.

Meanwhile, the monitoring continues to be carried out daily.

BC demands short-term solution

According to sources cited in the report, the Central Bank has indicated that a solution needs to be presented by next week.

If this does not happen, there may be some type of regulatory interference.

On the other hand, according to the same sources, the liquidation of the institution is not currently considered as the initially contemplated measure.

Understand the cancellation of the agreement with Quadra Capital

Last week, the BRB canceled the agreement for the sale of securities that had been previously acquired from Banco Master.

The negotiation was being conducted between BRB and Quadra Capital. The goal was to transfer R$ 15 billion in securities belonging to the institution linked to businessman Daniel Vorcaro.

Additionally, the plan announced in April provided for a division of payments.

In this format:

  • Up to R$ 4 billion would be paid immediately in cash;
  • The remaining R$ 11 billion would be settled through an investment fund.

However, the operation ended up being canceled.

Financial impact estimate

According to the information cited by the report, the financial impact resulting from the purchase of Banco Master assets by BRB is estimated at approximately R$ 8.8 billion.

However, so far, no new information has been released regarding a possible restructuring of the operation.

Official position

Finally, CNN Brasil reported that it contacted both the Banco de Brasília (BRB) and the Central Bank to obtain official statements.

However, by the time of publication, no response had been received from the institutions.

Thus, the space remains open for official statements, as reported by the news.
