The world's biggest car alliance, made up of Renault Group, Nissan and Mitsubishi, is ready to shed a role overseeing ties with Daimler in favor of individual relations with the German group, three sources told Reuters, as it tries to better manage a partnership that did not meet initial hopes.

The brand plan tries to change its image and finally the era of Brazilian Carlos Ghosn in the alliance. The architect of the Franco-Japanese partnership, which also extended the collaboration to Daimler, was arrested on charges of financial misconduct in Japan in late 2018 before fleeing to Lebanon in 2019. He denies any wrongdoing.

An industry shift to electric vehicles could yield further opportunities, one of the sources said.
"The collaboration with Daimler is currently made up of Renault-Daimler projects, those from Nissan-Daimler and some in between," said another of the sources, with another saying the changes reflected a more pragmatic approach.
