The Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte has opened 40,250 free spots for the extension course “AI For Basic Education Educators: Digital Competencies And Pedagogical Innovation.”
The training will be offered online, with a workload of 30 hours over ten weeks.

Target Audience And Course Objective
The training aims to prepare teachers for the responsible and creative use of Artificial Intelligence in pedagogical practices.
The initiative is a partnership between UFRN and the Open University System of Brazil (UAB), through the Distance Education Secretariat (SEDIS) and the Metropolitan Digital Institute (IMD).
Public school Basic Education teachers, EBTT career faculty, and students from UAB licensure programs can enroll.
If spots remain, state/municipal education secretaries and CAPES technicians can also participate.

Structure And Functioning Of Classes
Organized into four units, the course is 100% online and self-instructional.
The participant accesses content and activities in the Virtual Learning Environment (AVA) of UFRN and completes everything in an asynchronous manner, with flexible scheduling.
The total duration is ten weeks.
The material includes the fundamentals of AI, educational applications, the use of tools, and practices of prompt engineering applied to the school context.
Documentation Required For Registration
When submitting online, the candidate must attach in a single PDF file identification documents with a photo and the proof of activity in basic education.
Accepted proofs include: institutional declaration dated from the current month, ordinance, appointment act, work card, or paycheck.
For foreigners, Foreigner’s ID or passport with a valid visa is accepted.
The completion of the form and the accuracy of the information are the responsibility of the candidate, with no possibility of alteration after submission.
Selection Criteria And Results Timelines
The classification will follow the order of registration of candidates who meet the requirements.
The preliminary result is scheduled for October 21, 2025.
From October 22 to 26, the system will accept appeals based on the electronic form indicated in the notice.
The analysis of the requests will occur from October 27 to 29, with the final result on October 30, 2025.
Classes will start on November 3, 2025.
Monitoring And Submission Of Appeals
Throughout the process, participants should monitor communications, results, and updates in SIGAA, GOV.BR or on the SEDIS/UFRN website.
The form for submission of appeals against the preliminary result will also be available on these channels.
Appeals submitted late, without justification, or inconsistent with the notice will not be accepted.
The evaluation committee consists of teachers appointed by SEDIS and IMD, responsible for applying uniform criteria.
Certification And Institutional Link
This action integrates the UFRN–UAB ecosystem in partnership with CAPES/MEC.
Graduates will receive a certification of extension issued by UFRN, according to the practice of university extension courses.
The participation of MEC, CAPES, and UAB does not imply direct issuance of the certificate by MEC, but confirms the institutional nature of the training.
How To Register
Registrations are free and take place exclusively online between September 8 and October 10, 2025. The candidate can access SIGAA or GOV.BR.
In SIGAA, they should go to the Extension area, select “View Courses Or Events”, and locate the course “AI For Basic Education Educators: Digital Competencies And Pedagogical Innovation“.
Next, the system will request GOV.BR login and password for authentication and data sharing with UFRN. Those who do not yet have a GOV.BR account need to create an account and authorize integration.
After submission, it is necessary to monitor the candidate area to check for any updates or convocations.
